Crystal Springs Mountain Lodge PILGRIM’S REST, SOUTH AFRICA

Set high in the Drakensberg mountains, Crystal Springs Mountain Lodge offers a peaceful base along South Africa’s Panorama Route. Surrounded by sweeping valleys, forests and mountain views, it’s a place where guests can slow down and enjoy the scenery at a gentler pace. The setting is one of the lodge’s biggest draws. Mornings often begin with mist drifting through the mountains before the landscape opens up to reveal cliffs, rolling hills and dense greenery. In the evenings, the light softens across the valleys and guests can relax beside a fireplace or take in the views from a private verandah. Wildlife, including zebras, can often be seen moving freely around the property, adding to the sense of being immersed in nature. Crystal Springs Mountain Lodge is suited to

both relaxation and outdoor exploration. Guests can spend the day walking scenic trails through indigenous landscapes or enjoying the heated pools, which can be used throughout the year. The on-site restaurant serves hearty meals in a relaxed setting, making it easy to settle into the slower rhythm of mountain life.

The lodge is also well positioned for exploring

some of the region’s best-known attractions. The Panorama Route is home to several iconic viewpoints and natural landmarks, including God’s Window, Lisbon Falls and the Blyde River Canyon. Nearby Graskop offers a more adventurous experience, with attractions such as the gorge lift, cliff walk and the well-known Big Swing. For visitors interested in history, Pilgrim’s Rest

provides a glimpse into South Africa’s gold rush past. The restored town retains much of its historic character and makes for an easy day trip. Kruger National Park is also within convenient

reach. Phabeni Gate is around 45 miles away, making it possible for guests to include a safari experience during their stay. Day trips into the park offer the chance to see a wide range of wildlife, including the Big Five, before returning to the quieter mountain surroundings. Whether guests are looking for a restful

break, outdoor activities or a base for exploring Mpumalanga’s natural attractions, the lodge offers a calm and comfortable retreat in the mountains.

DON’T MISS Book a romantic open-air sunset dinner — an intimate, beautiful experience as the light fades
