Plitvice Lakes National Park CROATIA
Few places captivate quite like the Plitvice Lakes. This extraordinary landscape of 16 interconnected lakes tumbles through a series of cascading waterfalls, set deep within the unspoilt forests of mountainous Croatia. As the country’s oldest, largest and most visited national park, Plitvice Lakes has been recognised as a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1979, a testament to its outstanding natural value. Each year, up to one-and-a-half million visitors
explore the park’s wooden boardwalks and lakeside trails. Beyond scenic walks, guests can hike forest paths, row wooden boats across Lake Kozjak or make use of the nearby ski lift and slope during the winter months. In the heart of the park lies Hotel Jezero, offering
224 rooms along with a whirlpool bath, Finnish sauna, Turkish steam bath and fitness centre. Here, guests enjoy the rare privilege of staying within the park itself, with a one-day entrance ticket covering the entire duration of their stay during regular opening hours. There are also two campsites, Korana and Borje, located on the park’s outskirts.
Plitvice Lakes is a haven for nature-lovers, but
also a destination for gastronomy. Near Entrance 1 stands Lička kuća, one of the area’s oldest restaurants, with more than 50 years of tradition. It beautifully preserves both the local heritage and the region’s culinary techniques. In its warm, rustic setting, Lička kuća serves
traditional specialities alongside modern interpretations. A highlight is the Lika Bundle: potatoes, lamb, root vegetables, herbs and a touch of plum brandy, inspired by the traditional peka method of slow cooking under a metal bell. Served in a paper parcel that seals in the aromas, the dish delivers a rich, sensory experience. For a contrasting dining style, Black River Steak
& Pasta House offers a contemporary atmosphere with premium steaks and homemade pasta in flavourful sauces, bringing a modern edge to the park’s culinary scene. With its breathtaking scenery, wide range of
outdoor activities and distinctive gastronomy, Plitvice Lakes remains a must-see destination for anyone who visits Croatia.
DON’T MISS Walk the wooden boardwalks at sunrise, when the waterfalls are at their most magical and the lakes seem to glow in the morning light
