Kimmelvilla PYHÄTUNTURI, FINLAND
Few destinations on Earth carry the quiet drama of Finnish Lapland during winter. A vast landscape of frozen lakes, snow-laden forests and skies that, on the right night, erupt in curtains of green and violet light. Kimmelvilla sits at the heart of this ancient wilderness, within Pyhätunturi — a majestic fell some 80 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Consisting of two beautifully designed private
log villas, the site was born from a love for this particular corner of the north. The project took shape when four close friends committed to building a retreat that would honour both the rugged landscape and the modern traveller’s need for serenity. The result is a balance of what the creators describe as both the logic and magic of Lapland. The architecture is the first element guests
notice. Soaring triangular floor-to-ceiling windows frame the snowscape, flooding the open-plan spaces with the extraordinary light of the Arctic. The materials used in the villas are honest and deliberate: sustainably sourced log construction, ceramic surfaces crafted from natural minerals
and high-quality sound insulation ensure that rest in here is truly restorative. The surrounding Pyhä-Luosto National Park begins virtually at the doorstep, protecting some of Finland’s most ancient forests. Guests can access cross-country ski tracks just 50 metres from the front door in winter, or embark on mountain biking and hiking trails during the warmer months. Each villa accommodates up to six guests
across three sophisticated bedrooms. When both of the units are booked together, Kimmelvilla is an ideal choice for large family getaways or groups of friends. While the villas share a dedicated, authentic Finnish sauna building and a generous terrace, each maintains complete privacy and independence. Guests can eat in their villa or explore culinary
cultures in local restaurants. Upon request, a private chef can be arranged to prepare traditional Lappish meals in the villa’s kitchen. These menus often feature regional specialities such as almond potatoes, cold-smoked reindeer and hand-picked cloudberries.
DON’T MISS Watch the Northern Lights dance across the Arctic sky through Kimmelvilla’s spectacular floor-to-ceiling windows
