Lake St Clair Lodge TASMANIA, AUSTRALIA
Deep within Tasmania’s wilderness, around two hours’ drive from Hobart, Lake St Clair Lodge offers something increasingly rare: a place to relax, unwind and explore an ancient Gondwana landscape while experiencing traditional hospitality, as well as some of the cleanest air and water in the world. Getting there is all part of the experience. The journey takes travellers from the coast, over open farmland, through pencil pine and native eucalypt forests and onto button grass plains before reaching the subalpine setting of the lodge. Family owned and operated for almost 20 years,
the lodge is committed to sustainability and serves as an ideal base for relaxing or exploring the surrounding area. Situated beside Lake St Clair — the deepest
lake in Australia, carved by glacial forces — the lodge lies within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. It’s one of only two resorts globally operating within a Unesco World Heritage-listed region. It’s also the end point of the famous Overland Track, where hikers arrive after several days crossing Tasmania’s peaks and forest terrain.
Accommodation comprises 42 eco-cabins, from
cosy two-person retreats to spacious family homes, all set within the forest to offer comfort, privacy and a close connection to nature. Food is central to the experience, with organic
produce sourced from fields around the family farm on Tasmania’s north coast and nearby certified growers. Seasonal menus focus on simplicity, quality and traditional flavours, with both cafe and restaurant dining available. The lodge also produces its own award-winning spirits under the Trapper & Miggins label, reflecting the same commitment to Tasmanian ingredients and small- scale craftsmanship. The St Clair Wellness facility is currently being
established, allowing guests to make the most of the pristine environment, with a focus on rest, recovery and restoring balance. In addition, the lodge operates a ferry service on
the lake. The Ida Clair carries guests from Cynthia Bay to Echo Point for a walk back to the lodge or, for more adventurous visitors, to the northern end of the lake for a 10-mile return walk.
DON’T MISS Catch the Ida Clair ferry, then hike back along Lake St Clair’s quiet shoreline
