Putting the heart in hospitality – private members’ clubs Oswald’s and 5 Hertford Street lead the way in championing hospitality careers

rivate members’ clubs 5 Hertford Street and Oswald’s are owned by entrepreneur Robin


Birley and sit in the heart of Mayfair, London. Opening in 2012 and 2018 respectively, the clubs operate in the luxury hospitality market and comprise of restaurants, bars, Loulou’s nightclub, a cigar shop, sushi bar, roof terrace and courtyard. The 400-strong team is headed up by group


operations director Michele Caggianese, formerly of Milos, Jumeirah Carlton Tower and winner of HR in Hospitality’s Outstanding Leader of the Year award in 2022.


Our vision and mission Our aim is to be a home from home where members are looked after by a team who knows them by name. To be the best in every way possible, showing passion in what we do and attention to detail, and a smile being the pinnacle of all of our service.


Putting our people first Our motto has always been to put our people first. This is fundamental to us achieving an average retention rate of 70%, particularly important during such a challenging few years for the hospitality industry. We offer a range of initiatives to enable staff to be engaged and have a voice, for example, our Staff Forum hosts department representatives who make suggestions for business ideas. Employee benefits are available to all from day


one and include our weekly wellbeing days, which provide a variety of options for staff to take some time out, including reflexology and back massage, whilst our Employee Assistance Programme
