Phonics − ‘-cial’, ‘-tial’
‘-cial’ and ‘-tial’ make a /shul/ sound. They are suffixes added to words to make an adjective, e.g. A president is elected from a presidential race. ‘-cial’ is usually used when the letter before it is a vowel, e.g. office official. ‘-tial’ is usually used when the letter before it is a consonant, e.g. resident residential.
