New Technology – The Discovery and Use of Nuclear Energy – Its Impact on Historical Change
How did nuclear energy contribute to historical change?
Before: Various scientists from the end of the 19th century and into the 20th century helped to develop ideas about nuclear energy. Then, in 1938, Hahn and Strassmann in Germany showed how nuclear fission could split atoms and release nuclear energy.
After: During World War II, the USA used its wealth and technology to become the first country to develop the atomic bomb. In the Manhattan Project, the USA exploded the first atomic bomb (A-bomb) in the desert in New Mexico. After World War II, nuclear power or energy was also used in other different ways.
