feature. West End Travel staffers have an astounding average of 23 years’ length of service between them. In all, 23 of the Leading 50 TMCs boast an average length of service of ten years or more. TMCs themselves come and go, although mostly as a result of mergers and acquisitions rather than anything more unfortunate. Rosenbluth, Ayscough, Seaforths, Bath Business Travel, Fleet Street Travel, and many more, are off the radar, but the likes of Clarity and Applehouse are just new names for long-established companies. There is a lot of new blood, too. In 2003, nobody had heard of Click Travel, Amber Road, Blue Cube or Fello, and there plenty of others. But to go back to the beginning… In case you’d forgotten, Manchester City won this year’s FA Cup Final; I neither know nor care who is currently topping the singles charts; and the Papworth offspring have long since flown the nest. I no longer sift through the post (there isn’t any), but instead trawl through emails making good use of the greatest technological advance in my lifetime – the “delete” button. Looking ahead, technology is a subject we’ll no doubt be covering in the 200th issue of BBT in 2035. And many of the TMCs and their employees will still be standing tall.
