78 PRESERVATIVES
Results thus confirm broad- spectrum efficacy even on its own without added listed preservatives. The combination of pentylene
glycol, organic acids and glyceryl undecylenate demonstrates a synergistic effect of their modes of action. Figure 3 shows the challenge test result for a difficult-to-preserve W/O emulsion in which this combination achieved a complete elimination of germs after 28 days, passing the test with an A criterion as well. The third displayed challenge test was
performed with pentylene glycol and a blend of two fatty acid esters in a surfactant-based formulation (Figure 4). Reducing all five tested microorganisms according to criterion A of the ISO 11930 guidelines, the synergistic effect of these substances also adequately protects this type of formulation from microbial decay. These results underline the versatility and reliability of pentylene glycol as a preservative for all kinds of cosmetic formulations.
Performance meets responsibility The future of cosmetic formulation lies at the intersection of efficacy and responsibility. Consumers demand products that work and that reflect their values. Ingredient manufacturers must therefore go beyond delivering functional actives. They must ensure that these ingredients are produced ethically, sustainably and transparently. Pentylene glycol, as offered by Cosphatec, is a
prime example of this balance. It is a reliable and versatile component that simplifies formulation, supports preservation strategies and contributes to skin hydration. With Pentiol natural, the formulation of tomorrow begins today, with circularity, transparency, and performance built in. Cosphaderm Pentiol natural is particularly
relevant for certified natural brands, green beauty start-ups, and eco-conscious private labels. With its upcycled origin and full natural certification, it strengthens the story behind the product while delivering clear performance benefits. With Cosphaderm Pentiol GL, formulators retain access

to high-quality functionality with maximum economic flexibility. The application range of pentylene glycol
is extensive. In emulsions, it enhances both preservation and sensorial properties. In serums and gels, it improves clarity and moisture delivery. In surfactant systems such as shampoos and micellar cleansers, it stabilises formulas while supporting antimicrobial safety. Its gentle, non- irritating profile makes it equally suitable for baby care, sensitive skin products, and minimalist cosmetics. As the market continues to evolve, Cosphatec
remains dedicated to supporting its partners with ingredients that combine scientific excellence with environmental responsibility - because future- oriented cosmetics need both: performance and conscience. As an international raw materials manufacturer
based in Hamburg, Cosphatec is committed to the mission of developing sustainable and innovative solutions for creating for modern natural cosmetics.
With a focus on natural, sustainable and skin-
friendly ingredients, the company offers more than 70 products that fulfil the current standards of natural cosmetics and provide additional positive benefits for the formulation or skin in addition to product protection. Samples and additional product information can be requested from Cosphatec.
