Welcome to the September 2025 issue of Personal Care Global. I trust you had a great summer. Where does the time go?! We are fast approaching the autumn conference season, kicking off with this month’s 35th IFSCC
(International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists) Congress in Cannes, France. In this issue, we preview next month’s
California Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists Suppliers’ Day in Long Beach, USA. Cali SCC Suppliers’ Day has come a long way
from the early days when it was a one-day shindig held at the Proud Bird restaurant near LAX airport with 80 table-top exhibits. The 2023 edition saw more than 4,000
attendees and over 300 exhibitors, and this year’s edition is set to see further growth. Who knows, perhaps Cali SCC Suppliers’ Day may become an annual event like NYSCC Suppliers’ Day in New York? Personal Care will have a presence in Long
Beach at our stand (#358). Publisher Geoff King and senior sales executive Kelly McCann will both be in attendance to discuss media opportunities.
STEP COMMUNICATIONS Elsewhere in this issue, there is an interview
with Jim Minicucci, senior vice president and general manager of Ashland’s personal care division. Jim discusses the US firm’s global strategy
and wider personal care industry trends. He also gives a sneak peak of new, natural-derived ingredients in advanced stage of development that are designed to rival what he describes as “workhorses”, such as carbomers and silicones. The technical features in this issue are focused
on two main themes: hair care and skin care. Croda presents a novel biomimetic keratin peptide engineered to specifically address molecular- level damage by facilitating the recharge of hair’s intrinsic keratin, and therefore strength. Elsewhere, Virginia Tech’s Fralin Biomedical
Research Institute examines the science behind exosomes and EVs and evaluates whether they live up to the hype. There is also an informative article by Inabata
France et al that outlines the essential steps for selecting, sourcing, developing, and producing a new series of upcycled active ingredients, using a group of five extracts as a case study. Stay tuned for the inaugural Little Book of Upcyled Ingredients next month. Enjoy the magazine.
