Tere is growing momentum for legalised sports betting and several professional teams in the state have formed a coalition which is gathering signatures for a ballot initiative in November. Tis would allow voters to decide. Te campaign, called “Winning for Missouri Education” would allow for sports betting at the state’s casinos and online betting.
In Minnesota, which is surrounded on all sides by states which allow for sports betting, change look possible this year but lawmakers will need to satisfy a number of competing interests. Governor of the state Tim Walz says that he’s ready to sign a sports betting bill if it doesn't infringe on compacts the state has made with tribes. Casino gambling is lawful at casinos on Native American reservation territory. However there is also the issue of charitable gaming in the state and lawmakers need to also find a way by which charities would be able to take part as well or at least not lose too much if sports betting gets the go ahead. Proceeds from pull-tab sales (similar to scratch-off lottery tickets) in Minnesota go to support charitable causes.
