Apple has introduced Apple Sports, a free app for iPhone that gives sports fans access to real-time scores and stats with an option for live betting odds provided by DraftKings - not that they want to shine too bright a spotlight on the latter. Eddy Cue, SVP of Services, told Sportico that a setting will be available for those looking to hide that information, adding: “We’re not gonna take bets; that’s not what we do. I don’t really bet — I don’t like losing — but I do like the odds. It’s fun to watch and see who is favoured and by how much.” I understand the reasons behind not wanting to go into detail on the betting angle - before you know it there’d be dozens of headlines about Apple releasing a sports betting app with the inevitable backlash - but it’s quietly testing the water. Clearly, they’ve asked DraftKings to keep things on the hush-hush too because there has been schtum from them since Apple Sports launched. BetMGM’s website and app. X CEO, Linda Yaccarino, was much more candid than Eddy on the gambling piece: "Sports never sleep on X and now with our strategic partnership with BetMGM, fans are practically in the front row. We're bringing sports fans on X even closer to the action so they can cheer, and now bet, on their favourite teams." X users in the United States can now access BetMGM’s latest betting odds on pro football with each of the major professional and college sports expected to follow in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see how the integration evolves and grows in its functionality over the coming months.

Two very different approaches from Apple and X, but both are worth keeping an eye on. These massive businesses tend not to dip a toe in the water for long.
