SEMICON Europa to Highlight AI, Smart Transportation
Milpitas, CA — With semiconductors at the heart of the smart technology revolution, SEMICON Europa will highlight industry trends and oppor- tunities as artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) chips power autonomous vehicles, robotics, drones, and many other devices. Colocated with electronica, SEMI- CON Europa will be held November 13 to 16 at Messe München in Munich, Germany. With the theme “Semiconductors Drive Smart,” SEMICON Europa kicks off with a keynote opening ceremony led by Thomas M. Müller, executive vice president of electronics development, Audi AG, and Luc Van den hove, president and CEO, imec. “Europe is strategically posi-
tioned in the global electronics value chain to meet the multidimensional challenge of driving innovation across the industry,” says Laith Altimime, president, SEMI Europe, “helping to enable smart applica- tions, such as autonomous driving, IoT, AI, and deep learning.” SEMICON Europa will show-
case critical aspects of AI and data, including manufacturing technolo- gies, research, collaboration, educa- tion, skills, and regulations, with the TechARENA dedicating a special session to AI and the future of com- puting. SEMICON Europa’s focus on

neer. He has been involved with elec- tronics design and opto-mechanical design since 2003 and worked on HUDs, enhanced vision sensors and HMDs for Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Gulfstream, Embraer, and Bombardier. Tony Wilson enlisted in the U.S.
Navy in 1991 as a nuclear power technician and served aboard the fast attack submarine USS Boise. Later, he was selected for the enlist- ed commissioning program where he graduated from Old Dominion University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. His oper- ational military experience includes a combat tour in F/A-18Cs with VFA- 87 where he deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and a department head tour flying F/A-18F with VFA-102 in the Far East. After 25 years in the Navy, Wilson joined Lockheed Martin as a test pilot where he sup- ports both the F-16 and F-35 pro- grams. He has flown over 20 differ- ent types of aircraft, including an experimental British Sea Harrier, the U-2 and the MiG-15. He also has the distinction of being the first avia- tor to execute a shipboard arrest- ment, when he successfully landed the F-35C aboard the USS Nimitz. Contact: SMTA, 6600 City West

AI dovetails with the European AI strategy announced this year. Under the initiative, Europe will invest an additional $23 billion in AI develop- ment by 2020. New this year at SEMICON
Europa is the SEMI Global Automo - tive Advisory Council (GAAC) Automotive Forum, designed to con- nect the entire automotive electronics supply chain, including electronics design companies Synopsis and Cadence. The forum is part of SEMI’s strategic auto collaboration platform to enable the autonomous car of 2030.
With the rapid pace of technolo-
gy innovation, the industry continues to grapple with a worker shortage in preparing talent in a climate of rap- idly evolving skill sets. To help address these challenges, SEMICON Europa Workforce Day on November 14 will offer insights into gaining, training and retaining talent as the SEMI Career Cafe connects leaders in education and industry to help build the European electronics industry talent pipeline. Highlights of SEMICON Europa also include: the Advanced
Packaging Conference, which focuses on technology trends in packaging; 22nd Fab Management Forum, attracting European wafer fab cus- tomers and talent; the Strategic Materials Conference, highlighting diversity in materials for high-tech industries; and 2018FLEX Europe, which will showcase innovations enabled by flexible electronics.
