Microdispensing for Semi- and Fully-Automated Production Lines

Endless Piston Principle Due to the endless piston principle, used in all
of ViscoTec’s systems, the company can accommo- date a wide variety of applications. Based on pro- gressive cavity technology, fluids and pastes are dosed volumetrically and handled extremely gently. Even solids-laden and shear-sensitive adhe-
sives can be transported without problems — and with a repeatability of 99 percent bubble-free. Along with UV-curing adhesives, two-component adhe- sives and other adhesives, as well as solder pastes, thermal conductive pastes or other fluids that have viscosities from watery to pasty are processed. The special rotor-stator geometry of the pro-
gressive cavity technology and of the ViscoTec and preeflow dispensers enables pulsation-free dispensing. Dosing quantities in the range from a few µl up to larger ml quantities can be dosed accurately as dot, bead or potting applications. Another advantage of the endless
piston principle is the automatic suck- back, which prevents the material from dripping. This allows even very sensitive materials such as UV adhe- sives or anaerobic adhesives to be dosed. Due to the compact and weight- reduced design of the dispensers they can be integrated into almost all axis and robot systems. The dispensers can be operated and controlled as a com- plete dosing unit in systems. Progressive
cavity pumps
belong to the family of positive dis- placement pumps. The volume flow and the quantities to be dosed are directly proportional to the direction and number of rotation. The precise coordination of rotor and stator makes the dispenser pressure-tight which means there is no need for an additional valve. Volumetric convey- ing can be guaranteed at any time. As a result, dosing small amounts can be handled very gently. A sepa- rate control allows programming of the speed for the operator. Once the characteristics of an
adhesive are known, user-specific vol- umes can be programmed completely independent of viscosity and tempera- ture. With the microdispensers from ViscoTec and preeflow, dosing with a volume flow of 0.1 to 60 ml/min is pos- sible. In addition, both the one- and two-component dispensers can be used as handheld devices and also in fully automated processes.
Combining Know-How with Technology
Progressive cavity pumps are
ideally suited for pressure-sensitive fluids, containing polymeric hollow spheres for example, but also for vis- cosity-independent applications with fluids of up to several million mPa or thixotropic materials. Two-compo- nent applications with mixing ratios of up to 100:1, or even materials with a low pot life, can be processed with- out difficulty and dosed directly. Perfect preparation of the dos-
ing application is provided by a direct and gentle emptying of the material and a constant supply, which also uses progressive cavity pumps. Fluids that require a pre- treatment can be fed into a material buffer for homogenization and degassing. The dosing process is opti- mally planned from the emptying of the container through the treatment unit or the material buffer up to the actual dosing of the material.
Engineering and Consulting Each well-functioning dispensing application
begins with expert consultation and carefully consid- ered decisions. The process requirements and the dosing material must be defined. The appropriate dosage components are selected and the correct application parameters determined. In laboratory tests, the dosage applications are simulated and all parameters checked and optimized again before val- idation is given. The results from these tests are eas- ily transferable into the application for the integra- tion of the dosing task into the overall process. A positive collaboration between the cus-
