Laboratory Products 37 Flowmeter for Applications Requiring a High Degree of Cleanliness
The Metrafl ow ultrasonic fl owmeter from Titan Enterprises offers an ideal solution for fl ow monitoring applications requiring a high degree of cleanliness such as are found in the pharmaceutical, medical, semiconductor and ultra-pure water markets.
Typically production processes in these markets require fl ow measurement devices able to cope with low fl ow rates and construction from ultra-pure materials so as to maintain hygienic, sterile and sanitary conditions.
The single clean bore measurement tube construction of the Metrafl ow ultrasonic fl owmeter makes it ideal for almost any application where cleanliness is important. Made from high performance Perfl uoroalkoxy Alkane (PFA) polymer, the Metrafl ow ultrasonic fl owmeter offers wide chemical resistance and the ability to precisely monitor process fl ow temperatures up to 60ºC (140ºF) and pressures up to 28 bar (406 psi). Using patented ultrasonic technology, with a single unbroken measurement tube, the Metrafl ow is a non-invasive device with excellent accuracy (calibrated to +/- 1.0% reading) and repeatability across fl ow ranges from 20 to 5000 ml/min.
The Metrafl ow uses Titan Enterprises patented transit time ultrasonic technology to accurately measure liquid travelling through a PFA fl ow tube. The compact integrated electronic, display and sensor package offers superior performance in a single assembly. Computer and operational connections are separate, permitting setting and interface monitoring during normal operation through the Titan Interface Software. The units, time base, set points and analogue and digital outputs can all be set through the USB connector. The versatile software system also enables user confi guration of other parameters such as fl ow alarms, cut off levels, and even datalogging.

ilmt.co/PL/4OEq 53325pr@reply-direct.com Collaboration on High-performance Microfl uidics Driver Announced
Sensirion, a leading manufacturer of fl ow and environmental sensors, is pleased to announce its collaboration with micropump manufacturer TTP Ventus Ltd on the design of a compact high-performance microfl uidics driver. The system has been created to support laboratory prototyping and product development for a wide range of microfl uidics applications, from laboratory test systems, to diagnostics and analytical instruments. The companies have made the design available online for customers to recreate and adapt to their needs. The companies have integrated Sensirion’s next-generation SLF3x series liquid fl ow sensor with TTP Ventus’ Disc Pump Evaluation Kit, taking advantage of the class-leading capabilities of each technology. The resulting stand-alone system provides a closed-loop, constant fl ow rate source for high-precision applications.
The system operates on a ‘pressure-driven fl ow’ or ‘air over liquid’ principle, in which gas pressure generated by the pump is used to drive liquid fl ow through the microfl uidic circuit. If cross-contamination between liquids must be avoided, Sensirion’s LD20 single-use sensor can be used instead of the SLF3x sensor series. This separation of the pump from the liquid supports the reusable-consumable model widely adopted in diagnostics and analytical instruments, with the pump located in a reusable part of the system and the liquid path and sensor in a consumable. The micropump’s pulsation-free pressure generation delivers smooth liquid fl ow with none of the oscillation often seen with conventional technologies, such as peristaltic pumps. This brings a number of benefi ts, including the ability to create laminar fl ow, reduction of measurement noise, and gentle handling of delicate materials. The pump also provides excellent pressure control which, together with the high-resolution capability of the sensor, results in unrivalled liquid fl ow control.
Both technologies offer a wide dynamic range, enabling fl ow control over several orders of magnitude, from microliters per minute, to several milliliters per minute, providing full fl exibility when designing fl ow control protocols. The closed-loop fl ow regulation enables the system to respond to full-scale set point changes in just a few seconds, enabling protocols to be sped up, and minimising wastage of precious or expensive materials.

New Environmentally-Friendly Recirculating
Chiller Saves Operating Costs and CO2 IKA extends its range of recirculating chillers with the addition of the powerful and environmentally-friendly RC 2 GREEN basic and control models. These new devices combine a natural coolant with the tried and tested demand-controlled compressor technology. The result: Brilliant energy-effi ciency, CO2
savings
from the fi rst hour of operation and a reduction in operating costs.
Plant 163 trees or choose the RC 2 GREEN: You can save up to 4 tons of CO2
over a period of ten years
using the new circulation cooler as compared to conventional equipment. This corresponds to a return fl ight from Frankfurt to New York. IKA achieves this signifi cant reduction in the CO2

footprint as a result of the environmentally-friendly and natural coolant R 290 and the energy-effi cient compressor technology.
The coolant R 290 is classed as a pure hydrocarbon. It does not damage the ozone layer and has only a slight greenhouse potential. In addition, it has very good thermodynamic properties and promises a long service life for the recirculating chiller, even with future utilisation requirements. When combined with the demand-regulated compressor in the RC 2 GREEN, a cooling capacity of 800 Watt and a minimum temperature of -30°C is achieved . Not only is this good for the environment, but it also saves €150 - €250 per year of operation, calculated over a ten year period.
Both variants of the device are developments of the RC 2 recirculating chiller. However, at 800 W, the RC 2 GREEN conceals double the cooling capacity, in identical housing, thus saving 30% in installation footprint and half the device volume when compared to competitive devices. The result is a space-saving operation of two rotary evaporators, each having an evaporator fl ask of 1000 ml.
In addition, the RC 2 GREEN offers everything one would expect to see in a good recirculating chiller: a powerful pressurisation and suction pump, a high-quality fi ne- mesh stainless steel fi lter and, of course, the typical IKA modern and user-friendly design incorporating intuitive menu navigation. The display on the control variant can be removed. This permits straightforward remote operation, freeing up space immediately around the working environment for additional essential laboratory equipment.
The IKA recirculating chiller product group now includes a total of six devices. They are all particularly suited for cooling in extraction processes and in combination with rotation vaporisers and laboratory reactors.
