LIMS & Lab Automation
Software-as-a-Service Option for Industry-Leading LIMS Platform Announced
LabVantage Solutions, Inc announces that its platform is now available as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) package. With LabVantage SaaS, customers pay a simple subscription fee to access the entire LabVantage platform - laboratory information management system (LIMS), electronic laboratory notebook (ELN), laboratory execution system (LES), and scientific data management system (SDMS).
The advantages of SaaS solutions have made them increasingly popular across industries. LabVantage SaaS eliminates the substantial upfront costs associated with perpetual licensing, server installations, and the additional qualification work of a conventional LIMS. The pay-as-you-go subscription provides users everything needed to access and operate the LabVantage LIMS through their own web browsers. It includes all software licenses, servers, networking, load balancing, backups, and failover. Using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) ensures that all data traffic and servers on the client’s network are secure and enables easy access to the client’s instruments, printers and external systems.
With SaaS, software updates are automatically implemented by LabVantage, freeing up internal resources, eliminating downtime during installation and upgrades, and increasing productivity. The system is highly scalable and allows customers to pay only for what they need and use. It is a flexible option that makes it easy for customers to add features as they grow.
“Offering a SaaS option is consistent with our commitment to digital transformation and to making our LIMS platform available to all who can benefit from our industry-leading solutions,” said John Heiser, CEO at LabVantage Solutions. “As a comprehensive package that minimises the need for upfront investments, infrastructure, equipment, and ongoing maintenance, our SaaS option makes it possible for organisations of all sizes to implement a LabVantage system. We are already the most flexible and configurable LIMS on the market. Offering on-premise or cloud-hosted perpetual licensing and now an all- inclusive SaaS option gives our customers greater flexibility to select the perfect solution for their specific needs.”

Next-Generation Remote Monitoring Solution Supports Uncompromised Sample Safety and Integrity
With the option for an on-premise or cloud setup, the Thermo Scientific Smart-Vue Pro Remote Monitoring Solution provides real-time, continuous monitoring of critical laboratory equipment parameters and immediately notifies users about off-limit measurements that, if left unattended, could compromise sample safety and integrity. Notifications are delivered by email, text message or phone call, through a secure network, prompting corrective action. Importantly, the Smart-Vue Pro solution delivers fully traceable data logging and secure user-level access to the complete system functionality at anytime from anywhere with Internet access, facilitating compliance with a wide range of regulatory standards, including 21CFR Part 11 and cGxP.
Operating on the LoRaWAN (Long-Range Wide Area Network) technology, the Smart-Vue Pro solution can simultaneously monitor conditions across several laboratories located on different floors or buildings. The LoRaWAN technology ensures a single receiver can cover up to 2km line of sight in urban areas, eliminating the need to invest in multiple monitoring systems. Scalability is further enhanced through the advanced modular, customisable architecture of the Smart-Vue Pro solution that supports up to four pre-calibrated Smart Digital Sensors. As a result, the system can monitor many pieces of equipment or multiple parameters within one piece of equipment at the same time. Finally, the Smart-Vue Pro solution allows for easy expansion to accommodate additional pieces of equipment without the need for costly upgrades. Overall, this improved scalability results in considerable installation, hardware and maintenance cost savings.
The Smart-Vue Pro solution features an interactive, colour touchscreen that displays data along with visual and audio alarms for at-a-glance monitoring, while enabling simplified and customisable views for an improved user experience. Thermo Fisher Scientific backs the Smart-Vue Pro solution with end-to-end service and support packages to guide users through installation, validation, implementation and maintenance. Currently, the Smart-Vue Pro solution is capable of monitoring temperatures
ranging from −200°C to +150°C, relative humidity and dry contact state, with CO2 concentration and differential pressure set to be added to the system’s measurement capabilities in the near future.

Innovative Approach to ELISA Automation Announced by Leading Computer-Aided Biology Company
Synthace Ltd, the company behind Antha, the cloud-based software platform for automating and improving the success rate of biological processes, has launched a new software capability for streamlining a fundamental workhorse of biochemistry: the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Antha now allows researchers to flexibly design and execute automated ELISA protocols and automatically gather, structure, and analyse the data in an accessible, in-depth format, saving researchers valuable time from design to data acquisition.
ELISA protocols are ubiquitous in life science research but feature prominently in drug discovery, pathology (plant and animal), medical diagnostics, and quality control. Essentially, ELISAs use specific antibodies, like those generated by our immune system, to detect antigens and give off a detectable signal using an enzyme such as horseradish peroxidase. Without these assays, scientists would not be able to rapidly identify viral proteins, like in the HIV test, or detect potential allergens or toxins in food. An ELISA test for coronavirus was one of the first antibody detection methods available at the outset of the pandemic.
To reduce the programming and data handling burdens for researchers, Sythace’s Antha acts as a single point of contact to perform the assay and acquire results. Antha is device-agnostic, with an intuitive user interface that allows scientists to design a flexible, end-to-end protocol and test it step-by-step in silico before sending it to the machines involved.
In addition to showing the user a preview of the experiment, Antha automatically gathers tracks and structures data generated during the assays, even from non-integrated devices. At the conclusion of the protocol, Antha will generate a complete data analysis and visualisation of these data automatically, saving time and resources spent gathering data and formatting it manually.
Clients trialling the new ELISA feature in Antha reported: 70% reduction in method programming time; 81% reduction in assay design and analysis time.
“This addition to our Antha platform will enable scientists to perform key assays reliably and reproducibly at scale. Most importantly, this will allow scientists to spend less time in the lab, enabling them to design better experiments, explore new insights, and ultimately increase the impact of their research,” concluded Dr Tim Fell, CEO of Synthace.
