36 Microtrac MRB – Introducing A New Leader in Particle Characterisation
In January 2020 the leading companies for particle characterisation, Retsch Technology, Microtrac and MicrotracBEL united to become one enterprise: Microtrac MRB. This new constellation allows users of particle characterisation to access the broadest product portfolio worldwide from one single source. Microtrac MRB provides systems for particle characterisation by Laser Diffraction, Dynamic Light Scattering, Dynamic & Static Image Analysis, as well as Gas Adsorption Measurement to determine the specific surface and pore size distributions.
measuring setup of the CAMSIZER P4 / X2 makes it possible to measure an extremely wide dynamic size range accurately, without having to switch measuring ranges or making hardware adjustments.
Static image analysis is particularly suitable for precise characterisation of powders and suspensions in the low micron range. The CAMSIZER M1 ensures fully automated particle size and particle shape analysis of a wide variety of sample materials.
SYNC – Laser Diffraction and Dynamic Image Analysis Combined
Laser diffraction is a standard for outgoing and incoming particle size quality control, providing the equivalent spherical diameter (ESD) in volume % over a typical range from 10 nanometres to 2-3 millimetres.
Microtrac MRB is a global leader in laser diffraction instrumentation - by continuously improving the instrument technology, we offer customers a robust portfolio of laser diffraction instruments which is ideal for particle sizing and characterisation.
Our new analyser SYNC unites size measurement by laser diffraction and shape determination by image analysis in one instrument – one sample, one bench, one dispersion system, one sample cell, one analysis.
• High-end laser diffraction analyser for particle size measurement from 0.01 µm - 4 mm • Simultaneous measurement of size and shape by dynamic image analysis • Unique Tri-Laser geometry • Different configurations with red and blue lasers • Wet and dry measurements
The most FLEXible DLS analysis
Microtrac MRB has taken an innovative approach to dynamic light scattering (DLS) by using a proprietary probe design to deliver and collect light.
Powered by Microtrac MRB’s enhanced dynamic light scattering technology, the Nanotrac Flex is ideal for measuring particles across wide concentration ranges, using minimal sample volume. Named appropriately, the external probe grants the flexibility to measure suspensions from 0.8 nm to 6500 nm, in-situ or on a lab bench.
• External probe with 180° backscatter
• Turn any vessel into a sample cell – the external probe allows you to dip and measure
• Small sample volume required, as low as one drop of liquid
• Measures particles ranging in size from 0.8 to 6500nanometers
• No ‘a priori’ knowledge of the particle size distribution is required
Online Image Analysis
The CAMSIZER Online is a 3D particle size and shape analyser that can be integrated into any production flow. The reliable, rugged system is used for the measurement of pourable bulk materials such as fertiliser, sand, sugar, stones and a wide variety of food industry products and is acclaimed for its user-friendliness and application flexibility. With CAMSIZER online XL analysis of particles up to 135 mm is possible.
• Measurement range 22 µm - 63 mm or 60 µm - 135 mm (XL)
• For dry, pourable bulk materials
• Clean integration with 3rd party sample delivery devices • Optimised for control room use • Self-cleaning
Gas Adsorption Analysers
Microtrac MRB’s portfolio includes analysers for the determination of specific surface area and pore size distribution. The instruments use gas and vapour adsorption technology to analyse both porous and non-porous powder materials.
The BELSORP-max II and BELSORP mini X analysers allow for comprehensive surface characterisation such as micropore analysis by measuring adsorption isotherms from extremely low pressure, or hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity by water vapour adsorption.
• Simultaneous measurement of up to 4 samples
• Automatic measurement of adsorption isotherms according to minimum condition settings
• Adsorption isotherm measurement of various gases over a wide range of temperatures
• High precision vapour adsorption measurement under strict temperature control
• High precision measurement by Advanced Free Space Measurement (AFSMTM)
• Gas Dosing Optimisation (GDO) for reduced measurement time
Dynamic & Static Image Analysis
All Dynamic Image Analysis systems by Microtrac MRB determine the particle shape of the sample material in a detailed and representative manner. Due to its superior capability, dynamic image analysis is often used as an alternative to conventional methods such as sieve analysis or laser diffraction. The unique dual camera
Microtrac MRB products cover a wide range of applications. Our analysis systems for particle size & shape measurement are used in many different sectors like agricultural industry, geology, catalysts, coal & carbon black, building materials, glass, metal powders, plastics, as well as in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries. Our gas adsorption analysers are used to analyse both porous and non-porous powder materials. Microtrac MRB products are employed all over the world in research & development (R&D), quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA).
