Wheaton is pleased to introduce the new Biobanking Solutions Guide. Created as a tool to aid researchers in making their jobs easier and more efficient when storing and accessing irreplaceable biological samples, the Wheaton BioBanking Solutions Guide is a comprehensive offering of high quality products and customised services for cryogenic samples and projects. Focusing on the key areas of sample containment, sample traceability, processing tools and batching and storing, the BioBanking Solutions Guide highlights new and innovative products designed and developed specifically for biological sample management. Wheaton products featured include the SingleScan™ Bar Code Reader, a 2D Data Matrix and 1D Linear Bar Code Reader capable of reading coded vials and ampules from a wide range of manufacturers and label printers. Also featured are the CryoELITE®

Cryogenic vials, which boast an unrivaled

cap seal that exceeds DOT and IATA regulations thus ensuring the ultimate protection of samples during transportation and demanding freeze-thaw handling. CryoELITE’s Loctagon™ Vial Skirt provides stability in the freestanding position, providing easy open and close with one hand and the optional 2D Data Matrix Bar Code Insert provides a unique identifier for traceability.

Additional products include the KeepIT® Freezer Boxes, made from Eastman Tritan™, an environmentally friendly, Bisphenol-A (BPA) free, shatter resistant

resin, which offers the convenience of sample storage and scanning capability in one box and the Acura manual 826 XS micropipettes, specifically designed for the precision handling of precious samples in a controlled environment. Additionally, the BioBanking Solutions Guide features technical data, links to relevant industry websites, Best Practices and a series of unique advantages and tips, such as the benefits of using the unique Wheaton colour-coding system for managing your samples and projects. “Biospecimens are so critical in today’s research that we are directing our skills as a company to designing and developing innovative solutions to support the research community,” said Stephen R. Drozdow, President of Wheaton. “Scientists often spend their lives searching for answers, and we are honoured to be trusted to hold their life’s work in our sample management solutions,” he added.

Warner Instruments is pleased to introduce the new OTS 5000 Automatic Oscillating Tissue Slicer, the solution for sectioning fixed or fresh tissue. Engineered for maximum stability, the OTS 5000 slicer head minimises Z-Axis vibration, allowing for even the most delicate tissue to be cut successfully every time.

The OTS-5000 features a user programmable cutting window to minimise time between harvesting consecutive slices, allowing the section-cutting range of the blade to be customised to the specimen sample. Section samples in two different modes: Slice one section at a time, altering tissue thickness between manually triggered passes. Or, automatically perform multiple uniform slices.

The OTS-5000 is also available with a Refrigerated Controller and Tray to maintain tissue temperature between 0-10°C.

Thermal Microreactor has a new View

schuett count manual colony counter Facilitates counting of Petri dishes

The most time-consuming part of colony counting is the evaluation of Petri dishes. The schuett count manual colony counter facilitates this work considerably and is an essential support in the microbiological lab. The counter was designed for reliable and efficient counting of bacterial colonies and bacteriophage plaques growing on agar or nutrient disks in Petri dishes with a diameter from 50 up to 150mm.

State-of-the-art LED-lighting technology provides illumination, without heat generation, that is absolutely glare-free. schuett count offers three modes of illumination: from below, from the side or from the top (optional). The lighting intensity is continuously adjustable according to the lab environment. It optimises the detection of mixed cultures with different colours in one Petri dish.

By marking the colonies with a felt-tip marker pen on the Petri dish, the counting impulse is realised. Pressure sensitivity of counting plate and the buzzer volume are easily adjustable. The counting result is immediately shown on a 4-digit LED-display. Sample series or surveys may be evaluated with the schuett count colony counter, the average is calculated at the push of a button and can be transferred directly to the PC via USB-interface.

schuett colonyQuant automated colony counter Relax while counting colonies

The schuett colonyQuant automated colony counter has been designed for daily needs in modern microbiological labs. The system acquires images and counts the colonies at the push of a button. The user-friendly software is able to count within seconds up to 1,000 colonies on a Petri dish.

Colonies may be distinguished according to their colour, shape and size. One unique feature of schuett colonyQuant is the rapid change of methods - from counting Petri dishes with various agar types to evaluation of nutrient disks, spiral plating and inhibition zone analysis. Mixed cultures may be evaluated separately with up to 8 colours simultaneously. It easily analyses poured agar plates that vary in thickness or have an uneven surface or are poured slightly inclined.

The new version of automated colony counter series, the schuett colonyQuant HD, has been specially designed for Quality Control in water industries. It provides a camera with high definition (HD) resolution for analysing very small colonies of min. 0.05mm diameter. The traditional system with VGA-camera will analyse colonies from 0.1mm diameter. LED-technology puts the samples in high-contrast and colour fidelity lighting. Both systems include a UV-light source that is able to identify and to count fluorescent colonies like Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Use the full functionality: The original and the evaluated image will be stored and may be reported digitally with all relevant data of the analysis for printing and re-opening at any time for re-evaluation. All sample relevant settings, including the camera zoom function, are stored in the user profile. The GLP-conform schuett colonyQuant automated colony counter is portable and requires only little space on your workbench.
