Thermo Fisher Scientific ICP-MS Implemented by University of Oviedo for Reliable and Efficient Sulphur Detection in Proteins
Thermo Fisher Scientific Announces Enhanced iCAP 6200 ICP-OES – A Low Cost Solution with Extended Analyte Coverage and Even Lower Detection Limits
Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc announces the enhanced specification Thermo Scientific iCAP 6200 inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP- OES). The iCAP 6200 ICP-OES now incorporates a wider wavelength range of 175-847nm to enable users to measure a wider range of analytes as part of a multi-element analysis and to access more sensitive wavelengths for improved analyte detection capability.
The iCAP 6200 ICP-OES spectrometer is a simultaneous, dual-view instrument designed to provide a low cost alternative to the Flame Atomic Absorption (Flame AA) technique. The instrument provides a simple multi-element analysis solution for routine laboratories that require analysis of up to 100 samples per day.
Designed for a wide variety of application areas including food and consumer safety, environmental, mining and WEEE/RoHS testing, the iCAP 6200 ICP-OES delivers a powerful and cost-efficient trace elemental analysis solution. The instrument features an optimised gas distribution system to minimise gas consumption and dramatically reduce running costs.
Hosted by Thermo Fisher Scientific, a webinar entitled ‘Is your AA overworked? Is high specification ICP overkill? Discover the solution’, discusses the merits of the iCAP 6200 ICP-OES.

Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc announces that the University of Oviedo’s analytical spectrometry research group has implemented the Thermo Scientific XSERIES 2 ICP-MS to perform reliable and interference-free sulphur detection in proteins.
The analytical spectrometry research group at the University of Oviedo in Asturias, Spain aims to solve the analytical challenges encountered by science and technology. Within this framework, a small sub-group has been established focusing on the development of inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) based analytical methods for the quantification of biopolymers such as DNA and proteins.
Although ICP-MS detection does not provide any structural information, its outstanding capability to quantify most of the elements proves valuable for accurate protein quantification. Keeping pace with the latest technological developments, the University of Oviedo’s research group has coupled the XSERIES 2 ICP- MS with a reversed-phase capillary liquid chromatography
(µLC) system to facilitate precise determination of sulphur isotopes in standard proteins.
