INHECO offers a 4-model Incubator Family for automation integration, for MP or DWP disposables, with or without shaking. Precise temperature and shaker control, automated drawer control, plate loading sensors and several self test routines guarantee excellent incubation performance.
The incubators can be used in FDA / IVD compliant environments and applications. Software and verification tools (such as the IMP INHECO Measurement Plate) are available to form a complete thermal solution for all kinds of incubation applications. Unique vibration reduced shaking principles permit free programmable shaking curves (linear, circle, elliptic, eight, and any programmed patterns); Stacking of mixed, independently controlled units in one daisy-chain connected tower offers maximum flexibility.
The towers or single positions can be placed either on the deck of the liquid handling workstation, or next to such platforms, for direct pipetting without unloading the plate from the incubator drawer, and for easy access with robotic grippers. The deepwell incubators heat the plates from all sides and from top and bottom, even the doors are heated, not only to guarantee an excellent temperature uniformity, but also to achieve maximum heating rates and to avoid condensation. The units are plug-and-play high performance thermoelectric devices with USB interface and CE / UL certifications; The incubators have been integrated in all major liquid handling workstations.

Eco Autoclaves More Economical
Following the recent announcement that Lab3 has re-introduced the popular Boxer range of autoclaves, the first models to be released by this specialist laboratory supplies company will make up part of a developing ECO range. As the model name suggests these are designed specifically to bring greater economies to steam sterilisation applications; since steam is only generated when an autoclave operation is required energy consumption and water requirements are significantly reduced.
Two Boxer ECO models are initially being introduced by Lab3, the BL3-200-100 which has a 95 litre capacity and the BL3-200-200 autoclave with a larger 180 litre capacity. Both autoclaves offer the convenience of front loading with a load height of just 850mm, the door featuring a single action closure mechanism which makes opening and closing easier. This was a notable feature of the original Boxer brand and has been retained in the new re-engineered machines.
Both the new autoclaves are electrically heated and offer an operational temperature range up to 136°C and pressure of 2.2 bar. All parameter settings are easily made via a large, clear touch screen mounted on the front of the autoclave and once process temperature and time have been set the cycle is automatic, a graphical indication of the real-time process status being permanently displayed.
The new free-standing Boxer autoclaves from Lab3 have their chambers finished in polished grade 316 stainless steel; the BL3-200-100 with a chamber size of 480mm x 345mm x 565mm whilst the larger model BL3-200-200 measures 480mm x 510mm x 730mm. As standard each autoclave is supplied with two stainless steel loading shelves.
Only to be expected of a company with an outstanding reputation for quality and workplace safety, these Boxer Autoclaves comply with current UK and EU safety regulations. They have full Insurance Approval for pressure vessel design and construction and are CE Marked under the Pressure Equipment Directive PD5500:2000 Cat 3, Certificate Number CEN-068752/B1.
Directors at Lab3 are so confident in the build quality of the new Boxer brand and assurances of superb, durable performance all models are backed by a 3-year warranty.

Heat-On Replaces Unsafe Oil Baths at Leading Australian University
Heat-On blocks from Radleys offer a safer, cleaner and faster method of heating round bottom flasks than conventional oil baths. Looking for a safe and cost effective alternative to oil baths, chemists at a leading ‘green’ university in Australia have invested in multiple Heat-On blocks for use in their teaching and research labs. Commenting on their existing methods, the lead chemist, said: “We purchased the Radleys Heat-On blocks in our continued efforts to improve safety in the lab, replace expensive oils and to reduce environmentally harmful oil waste.
Most previous work requiring heating of reaction mixtures involved the use of oil baths, but with the high cost of silicone oils, many people were using less safe paraffin oils. Our stores also stopped stocking silicone oil because of the cost and although we found a relatively inexpensive alternative, this does seem to polymerize with monotonous regularity.”
“We investigated blocks from several different suppliers but chose Heat-On for several reasons. The main reason was that unlike ‘nested’ systems the 250ml, 500ml, 1 litre, 2 litre and 3 litre came as stand-alone blocks, so more than one person can perform a reaction at a time. The other block system we considered had several ‘nested’ sizes, so you needed the 1 litre block with a 250ml insert to do a 250ml reaction, precluding anyone else doing another reaction as the base block is already in use.
The slightly higher cost of the Heat-On package is adequately balanced by the ability to set up several reactions using the separate blocks. The Heat-On blocks are also very sturdy and are compact, fitting cleanly over the hotplate without extended handles. The Heat-On blocks also have key-like handles, which can be easily fitted to remove a hot block from the hotplate after the reaction.”
“We chose the fluoropolymer coated blocks over the anodised as we felt they will be sturdier for student use. So far, they don't have a mark on them. We have also used several sizes at temperatures up to 230°C with no problems.”
