UNMISSABLE A NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM It’s become a beloved annual tradition… Here’s what to expect from La Nuit des Musées this year
In the middle of the night on Saturday, May 16, some two million people will be found not tucked up in bed or in a restaurant but at one of 1,200 museums across France as the country takes part in the 16th annual European Museum Night. Entrance to the museums will be free and visitors will have a
chance to explore the Hexagon’s finest treasures after normal opening hours. As well as offering a unique perspective on their permanent collections, many museums will be laying on special exhibitions and activities to mark the occasion, such as torch-lit guided tours, concerts, games, workshops, screenings, tastings, shows and even escape games. In 2020, many new or recently reopened venues will be taking
According to France’s Minister of Culture, Franck Riester,
“The Night of the Museums is an opportunity for everyone to discover the rich French and European museum heritage and to get to know the museums. I salute the remarkable dedication and mobilisation of their teams who, throughout France, work for the democratisation of culture and access to works for all.” And although it may be well past their bedtime, the
youngsters of France won’t miss out either. Operation “The Class, the Work!” involves 805 classes and 360 museums in L’Hexagone, presenting projects designed by thousands of children for visitors to admire on the night.
