Wyoming All-State Conductors 2020 2020 Wyoming All-State Band
Travis J. Cross serves as professor of music at UCLA, where he conducts the Wind Ensemble, directs the graduate wind conducting program, and chairs the music department. He was also associate dean for academic mentoring and opportunity during the initial years of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. Cross has conducted the UCLA Wind Ensemble at the California All-State Music Education Conference and College Band Directors National Association Western/ Northwestern Division conference and prepared the band for centenary performances of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 2004, Cross participated in the inaugural Young Conductor/Mentor Project sponsored by
the National Band Association. The same year he received the Distinguished Young Band Direc- tor Award from the American School Band Directors Association of Minnesota. From 2001–2003, Cross served a two-year term as the recent graduate on the St. Olaf College Board of Regents. In 2006, he was named a Jacob K. Javits Fellow by the United States Department of Education. From 2011–2015, he served two terms as national vice president for professional relations for Kappa Kappa Psi, the national honorary band fraternity.

2020 Wyoming All-State Orchestra
Taiwan-born conductor Jerry Hou is making his mark in concert halls and opera houses in the United States and abroad. He has conducted the Dallas Symphony, Houston Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Luxembourg Philharmonic, Teatro Colon, Rochester Philharmonic, and San Antonio Symphony amongst others. Last summer, Hou led, to much acclaim, the opening concerts of the Grand Teton Music Festival, in a program of Copland, Aaron Jay Kernis, and Rachmaninoff’s First Piano Concerto with renowned soloist Daniil Trifonoff. Known for his flexibility in many styles and genres, he has conducted a broad range of repertoire from classical to contemporary. This past spring, Hou led performances of a new collaboration between composer Steve Reich
and artist Gerhart Richter to commemorate the opening of New York City’s new performing arts space and center for artistic invention, The Shed. Hou has conducted leading contemporary music ensembles Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Signal, Remix Ensemble, Musiqa, and Alarm Will Sound. He has a close tie to Wyoming having worked as Artistic Advisor to the Wyoming Symphony and as Associate Conductor with the Grand Teton Music Festival.
