modern band approach). She will also discuss the challenges and rewards of building a high school music program in Wyoming from the ground up.

Pre-Service students and teachers with less than four years experience, this one is for you: A panel discussion representing over 100 years of experience with Joan Davies, Diane Knutson, and Paul W. Searcey. They will pass along to you things they learned after college to make your first three years much easier. The panel covers general, vocal, and instrumental music, passing along ideas, tips, and methods about which pre-service and rookie teachers are not informed... until it’s too late.

Over the past ten years, ukuleles have exploded onto the music education scene! The ukulele is a powerful teaching tool in the music classroom for many reasons. The ukulele can be enjoyed both as an individual and group instrument, and the skills students learn easily transfer to other folk instruments, such as the guitar (e.g. technique, playing by ear, reading music notation and chord diagrams). Most importantly, the ukulele is a fun instrument that unleashes children’s passion for music. Within this session, I will describe the ways in which I use the tenets of culturally responsive pedagogy and world music pedagogy to incorporate the ukulele into my music curriculum at all levels: K-8. I will also provide a list of curriculum resources that I have found to be helpful.
