Opening Night Concert


The Kelly Walsh Percussion Ensemble The Kelly Walsh Band Program serves around 200 students and consists of a Concert Band, Marching Band, Drumline, volunteer Pep Band, Intermediate Percussion Ensemble, Advanced Percussion Ensemble, as well as three tiered Jazz Ensembles. The KW Band Program auditions over 60 students annually for various honor ensembles and last year had over 70 solo/small ensemble entries in the North Platte District Music Festival. More than any of this – our focus remains on making music and memories – cultivating the energy and relationships brought to life while making music together. The Kelly Walsh Band is a tremendous family that truly loves the friendships and relationships formed in the

This weather related performance is a 5-part compilation of pieces meant to take the audience through a “whirlwind” of musical weather patterns. Throughout the performance the featured ensembles shift between the Intermediate and Advanced Percussion Ensembles.

Brent Rose – Director of Bands Brent is in his 18th year teaching public school music in Wyoming. After spending 11 years teaching at Buffalo High School in Buffalo, WY has spent the past 8 years in Casper and is in his 5th year at Kelly Walsh High School. Brent has spent 15 years on the WMEA serving as District President, Jazz Chair, and WMEA President.


In addition to his work with KW and WMEA, he is also the managing director of the


Wyoming All-State Marching Band. Brent has received numerous awards over the years including WMEA Music Educator of the Year, Natrona County Educator of the Year, Johnson County Educator of the Year, Casper Star Tribune “40 Under 40” Award, NCSD Ellbogen Meritorious Teaching Award, and the Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Band Master Award.


Sarah Hanson – Assistant Director of Bands Sarah is in her 11th year of teaching and is currently the Assistant Director of Bands as well as Piano Accompanist at the Kelly Walsh High School. Prior to her work at KW Mrs. Hanson was the Director of Bands at Centennial Junior High School in Casper. Mrs. Hanson was named the WMEA Outstanding Young Educator in 2016 and was given the Natrona County School Medallion of Excellence in 2012.
