Round-Up, Continued -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Southeast District President David Hurst
Hello Wyoming Music Educators. Tis fall has been busy with the start of school, marching band, concerts, and festivals. Te Southeast district had students active in so many different ways!
Our elementary and junior high schools performed wonderful Veterans Day programs. Te high school choirs have had their first concerts of the year. Many of our junior high and high schools had students audition for the ACDA All-Northwest Choirs to be held in Spokane in March. One of my favorite concerts each year is the collaboration between Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, and Cheyenne South high schools as they perform a joint jazz band concert. Tank you to South High School for hosting the concert this year.
State Marching Festival, in Casper, is always a highlight to the fall semester. Watching the bands improve each week leading up the state festival is always so amazing. I love that the football teams have the opportunity to play their games before and aſter the half time show. Our Southeast District bands performed so well at state. Cheyenne Central received a Superior (1) rating with caption awards in brass and woodwinds. Cheyenne East received a Superior (1) rating with caption awards in brass, color guard, marching, percussion, and woodwinds. Laramie High received an excellent (II) rating, and Cheyenne South received a Superior rating with a caption award in percussion. We are so proud of our band students and directors.
Tis year was my first opportunity to watch the State Strings Clinic. Te three orchestras had two days of outstanding rehearsal and finished with a fantastic concert. Our own Leslie Fox did a masterful job of directing the “C” orchestra. It’s always a privilege to see and hear all the of learning happening in the Southeast.
