-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- South Big Horn Basin District President Leesa Kuhlmann
Greetings from the South Big Horn Basin district! I can’t believe it is already three months in. Our District Clinic was held on November 22 & 23, 2019, at Central Wyoming College in Riverton.
We have had it hosted at CWC for several years and are very grateful to the college to do this for us. Te band clinician was Dr. Robert Belser from the University of Wyoming. Te band played “Dusk,” by Steven Bryant, “Shine,” by Michael Markowski, “Spirit of 76,” by Clare Grundman, and “American Barn Dance,” by Richard Saucedo. On the choir side, Dr. Holly Dalrymple from the University of Wyoming was our clinician. Te choir songs included “Muie Rendera,” a Brazilian piece by
C.A.Pinto Foseca, “Elijah,” by Dan Davison, “Sing Praises,” by Lloyd Pfausch, and “Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair,” arranged by Stuart Churchill. It was great to hear these talented groups. Tanks to Dr. Belser and Dr. Dalrymple for helping our students to grow musically.
As you all know, our hectic concert season is fast approaching. Many concerts will be given in the next month, and we should support our fellow music teachers the best way we know how--by our presence at their concerts. I know how tired all of us are, but knowing your fellow teachers support what you do is huge in maintaining great teachers in our public schools. If you live a close drive to
another community, check their schedules, and try to see as many concerts as you can this year Let other teachers know what a great job they are doing.
Te South Big Horn Basin high school District Festival will also be in Riverton at CWC, April 21 - 22, 2020. At press time, the Rock Springs junior high teachers were talking about hosting a middle school festival at Rock Springs High School on Saturday, May 9, 2020 but it has yet to be confirmed. Have a great season, and I hope to see all of you at the State Music Conference in Gillette in January.
