Essentially Ellington will be sending Michigan State University’s Rodney Whitacre, a frequent performer with Jazz at Lincoln Center and instructor at their annual Band Director Academy, as well as 2019 Essentially Ellington Competition winning director, Scott Brown. Mr. Brown is a teacher at Roosevelt High School in Seattle, Washington. Aſter all bands have received their clinics on Wednesday, the adjudicators will be recognizing outstanding soloists and extending an invitation for an encore performance to the top band, if they are able to stay. Students and their directors will then hear a concert of the adjudicators. Troughout the festival, all student performances and clinics are free and open to everyone.
