HOMESTYLE

mark edward interiors WHERE HISTORY COMES HOME

gained in confidence and learned a thing or two about switching on the festive style.

Whether you favour all things traditional or are bang on trend, choosing a colour scheme is a good the place to start. You can conjure up a warm glow or create a wintery wonderland with just a few clever touches and a dash of imagination. Either way, the general advice from the style experts seems to be that less is definitely more when it comes to making an impact.

If sumptuous reds, greens and golds are your Christmas colours of choice then why not stick to the scheme but opt for fewer adornments? And if you prefer the crisp, fresh look of silver and white, then make the most of slender icicle ornaments, taper candles or delicate ribbon to decorate garlands.

Once settled on a colour scheme, start as you mean to go on with a decorated wreath or holly sprigs on your front door to usher in Christmas right from the off. You can continue your theme through your living and dining area to achieve continuity. Hang colour-co-ordinated drapes, scatter some Christmas cushions and dot berries, baubles, pine cones or cinnamon sticks around to evoke some seasonal scents. Among this year’s trends are anything vintage or nature inspired. Stag’s head baubles, cardholders and wall decorations can be found in the shops and anything goes, cute or lifelike, large or small. So whether you opt for echoes of Victorian splendour or prefer to create a frosty festive backdrop, it’s time to take the plunge and enjoy one of the most creative - and least stressful - aspects of Christmas.
