WENTWORTH

Discover a winter wonderland

at Wentworth Woodhouse

We’ve some news, are you listening? Down the lane, front lawn glistening. An exciting new sight, a future that’s bright. Wentworth Woodhouse will become a winter wonderland.

Transforming the rolling grounds into a

traditional Christmas market with charming wooden cabins, start your festive celebrations off in style at Wentworth Woodhouse’s magical three-day market from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th December. For the very first time, this year sees the

preservation trust’s events team take the reins to host their own spectacular Christmas celebration that promises to entwine the historic allure of this grand Georgian house with family fun festivities. Discover a range of handmade gifts, arts and crafts, locally-sourced foodie favourites and

vintage decorations in the many tinsel-tousled stalls outside. Inside, the magic continues in the richly

decorated Pillared Hall with even more handpicked stalls for you to find unique and traditional Christmas gifts. After wandering around the stalls, visit the

twinkling tipi to find plenty of hot food from fish and chips or freshly baked pizzas to pulled pork sandwiches and spicy Mexican street food to take the chill off the December air – all washed down with mulled wine or hot cordial. Throughout the weekend, Santa will be

making a visit to his favourite Grade I listed house in South Yorkshire as he sets up his seasonal grotto in one of Wentworth Woodhouse’s 365 rooms – he’ll be spoilt for choice. Let your little ones tell the big man himself what they would like for Christmas, with a small gift for each child for just £5. Get the whole family singing along to festive

tunes performed by students from Rotherham College on Friday while Thorpe Hesley Brass Band strike a chord with traditional carols on Sunday. Tickets for the Christmas market cost just £5

for adults, with children under 12 entering for free. By organising the event in-house, this means all proceeds will go back into the restoration of this glorious historic house to continue the magic for generations to come. And the festivities don’t stop there; in the

lead up to Christmas, the team will continue to host the ever-popular Wentworth and Clifford tours for an insight into the rise and fall of this

majestic South Yorkshire gem that has captivated a nation. After discovering the state rooms and private family quarters, enjoy mince pies and mulled wine in the tearoom. This will also give you a chance to have a

peek at the new gift shop next door offering a stunning selection of artisan Christmas decorations, historic novels and coffee-table books, and delicious confectionery and preserves among the choice of unique gifts. You could even buy tour vouchers as a Christmas gift. Once your shopping is sorted, relax and

listen to the Thurnscoe Harmonic Male Voice Choir who will be returning to the house once again on Saturday 22nd December for their annual Christmas concert. Bringing their iconic Thurnscoe Sound to Wentworth, get into the festive spirit with their performance of pop musicals, classical choral and a sprinkling of Elvis. Still struggling for a gift idea? Why not follow

in the footsteps of the house’s former craftsmen and make a pledge to the house’s innovative Make Your Mark in History campaign? For a minimum recommended donation of £50, you can gift a roof slate featuring your loved ones’ name with a message or handprint which will then be laid over the East Front’s state rooms to be rediscovered in the distant future.
