CHRISTMAS
The purrfect panto
Pack up your knapsack, lace up your boots and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime as Rotherham Civic Theatre brings a classic rags-to-riches tale to life as the popular annual pantomime returns this Christmas. Oh, yes it does!
Working alongside Imagine Theatre, one of the country’s top pantomime producers, the Civic stage will be paved with gold as it welcomes a host of familiar faces to tell the much-loved story of Dick Whittington and one very special cat. Join ambitious Dick and his furry friend, Tommy, as they pit their wits against the evil King Rat, journey across the high seas and generally get up to all sorts of shenanigans to dish up a large dose of seasonal cheer and goodwill to all. Seasoned panto performer, Nathan Guy, takes the title role of down-on-his-luck Dick, who packs up his troubles and sets out down Ye Olde M1 to London to seek fortune and fame while facing trouble and strife at every turn.
With his faithful sidekick, Tommy the Cat, rubbing against his ankles along the way, join the heroic young lad and his fearless feline as they live their nine lives to the full. Starring with them as the sea-faring merchant, Alderman Fitzwarren, is former Heartbeat actor David Lonsdale who played hapless David Stockwell in the long-running ITV series; while Ian Hallard’s comedy capers could well steal the limelight as everyone’s favourite Dame, Sarah the Cook.
Singer Ann Micklethwaite sparkles as Fairy Bow Bells who foretells of Dick’s future success as thrice Lord Mayor of London and Ashley Andrew plays the Alderman’s daughter – and eventually Dick’s sweetheart - Alice Fitzwarren. Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper panto without a good villain and the aptly named Paul Stirrat dons his cloak and fiendish grin as the revolting rogue rodent, King Rat, who infests the city with a swarm of his mouse-like minions. Will Dick be able to ‘turn again’ and save the day by a whisker?
Get set for lots of audience participation,
fabulous costumes, stunning scenery and plenty of music, jokes, hisses and boos with this feelgood family friendly show that looks set to serve up a liberal sprinkling of festive fun.
