Make it a messy Christmas at Experience Barnsley
Let the children send an extra
special seasonal message to family and friends this year by making their own Christmas card at Experience Barnsley. On Saturday 8th and Sunday
9th December, local artist Louise Wright will be at the town’s flagship museum to teach printmaking techniques. Using
the materials provided, children can design their own stamps and prepare to get messy as they print their own card that will leave a lasting impression on its recipient’s heart. There are two sessions each
day, 11am until 12.30pm and 1pm until 2.30pm, with tickets just £1.50 per child.

Earl’s workshops at Elsecar Heritage Centre
For those who dread the
thought of tackling the busy shopping malls to do their Christmas shopping, a visit to Elsecar Heritage Centre might just solve all of your gift-buying problems. Once a thriving industrial
ironworks run by the Earl Fitzwilliam of nearby Wentworth Woodhouse, today the historical workshops at Elsecar are filled with a range of independent retailers selling a variety of wares. Pick up everything from
ladies clothing and shoes to children’s wooden toys, stunning antiques, traditional sweets and
confectionery to old school music records; there is even a craft shop to stock up on your supplies for making Christmas cards, calendars or winter knitwear. Take a break from shopping
at one of the on-site cafes and there is also a beer shop where you can sample one of the many bottled or draught ales before you buy. On Fridays 23rd November,
7th and 14th December, the shops and eateries on site will be open until 9pm with their late night festive shopping events – perfect for those who work during the week.
Not your run of the mill Christmas at Worsbrough Mill Carry on the crafty Christmas
theme at the historic Worsbrough Mill where you can learn all about the art of bread making thanks to their new miller, Simon Dodd. One Sunday a month, the
17th Century water-powered mill will roar into action for visitors to experience the art of flour making up close as Simon demonstrates the traditional technique of turning grains into flour. This winter, the sessions will
be on Sundays 25th November, 16th December and 27th January so expect lots of clanks, crashes and rumbles as the millstones get to work. Afterwards, see how
the flour can be turned into bread using the site’s new wood-fired portable oven. While the smell of fresh
bread wafts through the air, be inspired by the bountiful natural beauty of the country park as you create a personalised decoration for your Christmas tree on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th December at their free drop-in sessions. During that weekend,
Santa will also be stopping by in his woodland grotto where children can experience a last-minute visit for £6 before he jets off in his sleigh.
