shop with a list you will not only save money but stop wasting it. The other ‘modern way’ of eating is for each member of the family to have a different meal to satisfy all the different likes and dislikes. (I’m not talking about genuine food allergies.) This is expensive! And indulgent. This behaviour is the stereotypical ‘Rod for your own Back’ that parents of today fall into in the early days of bringing up their children. I am totally ancient now, I know that, but my parents on no occasion offered me a choice at meal times. You were allowed to leave things after you had TRIED them! Nobody as far as I know has died from eating a Brussel sprout. (For me it was liver - ugh.) Eating patterns are also connected

to emotion and occasion. We feast to celebrate good times so we may be confused and think that eating makes everything better. Does more food = more happiness? It is a very tan-

gled web indeed as there are also people who believe that less food = more happiness. Whatever your take on it, eating sensibly and not connecting it to how your

day went is a good stance to take but I know it’s a hard one. Eat breakfast. Just because you can go hours without

eating in a bid to shift a few pounds this will have the opposite effect. The more you starve yourself the more your body will slow down your metabolism to make the energy from the food you have eaten last. Kick start it by having a healthy meal at the beginning of the day. You

already know what is healthy so I don’t have to list things here! Eat lunch and do so before you reach the

point of extreme hunger. Have fruit and a few nuts to snack on in the danger hours between lunch and dinner. Try not to be fooled by all those ‘health bars’ as they contain copious amounts of fats, sugars and salts. It is not hard to make your own and there are dozens

of recipes online to do so. Try not to eat right before going to bed. Your body needs time to rest and repair and if your digestion is hard at work during the night you will not feel refreshed. All those old wives tales about eating cheese giving you nightmares were bedded in common sense. So in conclusion, a little of what you fancy does you

good! Enjoy the festival and TRY different things - you never know your taste buds may have changed over the years. Happy Trails, Readers, Happy Trails.
