Dartmouth Food Festival - 2018 Rotary Young Chef Competition 2018

Dartmouth Rotary Club and Dartmouth Academy

There is a great opportunity for students from Dartmouth Academy, on their GCSE course for Food Technology, to enter a National Competition. Rotary International run an annual competition of four rounds and Dartmouth Rotary Club organise the local heat to coincide with our wonderful Dartmouth Food Festival in October.

The students get shortlisted and then allocated to top chefs from different restaurants and hotels around town for mentoring. The task is to create a nutritious, attractive two course meal on a tight budget and prepare it in two hours. Their meals complete with menu cards, are then

set before a panel of judges made up of chefs and local dignitaries.

The winner and runner up from our heat will then go forward to the District round and from there a chance to get to the prestigious national final.

So why not come along to support these talented and ambitious young chefs on what could be the start of a brilliant career?

Thursday October 18th: 5.00-6.00pm: Demonstration Kitchen, Royal Avenue Gardens: Judging and presentation of awards.

Family Fun at the Festival

Everyone is welcome at the festival and especially children as they may well be the chefs of the future. So bring them along to cook, taste, buy and learn all about the food they eat.

Thursday 18th October sees the return of our dedicated Children’s Day. Organised by Café Alf Resco (one of our fabulous sponsors) invited school- children from the local primary schools get involved in a series

Our ever popular Children’s Tea Party this year has a new venue – The Flavel Church - open to all where many of our local producers come together to provide some tantalising tasters for local and visiting youngsters. Thursday 18th October at 4.30pm.

From 19th – 21st October, Café Alf Resco and Coast and Country Cottages will be hosting our Family Area in the Royal Avenue

Gardens. There’ll be lots of family friendly activities including face-painting, biscuit decorating and arts and crafts for children of all ages.

The Flavel Church will be hosting pizza and bread making sessions on Saturday October 20th from 1 – 4pm so pop in and get cooking!

Get up and cook – a demonstration for children will be held in our Chefs’ Demonstration Kitchen in the Royal Avenue Gardens on Sunday morning at 10.00am.
