/18th of

F.A.I. Visit to Corkbeg An F.A.I. delegation, will visit Corkbeg AFC in August, as part of it’s Festival Of Football week in Cork county. The dele- gation, which will include FAI CEO John Delaney and FAI President, Tony Fitzgerald, have includ- ed Corkbeg on their whistle-stop tour of the county, as a part of our 50th

cer. To her brothers Jim, Michael, Patrick and John, who have

close

links with our club, we send our deepest condo- lences. We also express our sympathies to the ex- tended Russell and Wall families. Her warmth and love

of life radiated from her every pore and the loss to her family , wide circle of friends and the Whitegate community is immense. Mary was laid to rest in Aghada and how apt that sunshine and music were such a huge part of her send off.

Anna, Kate and

Bridget are three young ladies who she was im- mensely proud of and they played wonderfully dignified and composed roles in giving her a send off like no other. Its been a while, if ever, since Ab- ba’s Dancing Queen was danced to in the old cem- etery in Aghada. Rest in Peace Mary.

A number of former Ire- land internationals will also form part of the del- egation. We’d like a big group to welcome the the FAI to Whitegate in Au- gust, so keep it in mind and we’ll be giving full details next week.

photo is from the one that got away. Corkbeg had some great success around the turn of the new decade back in the 1990s. A league title in Div3 in 1990, was fol- lowed by a Saxone Cup triumph over Boher Celt- ic the following year. And in 1993, the Beg brought the County Cup back to Whitegate by defeating Brooklodge 1-0 at Turn- ers Cross. Our photo is from the middle of those successful years, in 1992. Corkbeg were beaten in the County Cup final by Brooklodge and would gain revenge at the same venue the following year. The starting line up that day is pictured here.
