The fundraiser for RNLI Ballycotton took place last Sunday, 29 July at Garryvoe Hotel, and was a swinging success. Doors opened at 8pm to a queue of people ready to take to the floor for a night of music, dancing and fun with Gina and The Champions and special guest MC Ronan Collins. An estimated 400 pairs of dancing feet turned up to help raise funds for the vital work of Ballycotton lifeboat - €6,000 in all. Duo David Quirke and Jason Perry had the dance floor full and well enter- tained even before Gina, Ronan and the band took to the stage. “They were fantastic”, said Margie Houlihan, a member of the Lifeboat Fundraising Committee, “and they re- ally got the crowd going.” MC Ronan Collins drew the prizes for the raffle. 1st prize was an amazing 2 nights B&B in Castlemar- tyr Resort with a 5-course evening meal, which was won by Michael and Patri- cia Archer. Margie continued, “We are extremely grateful to all the prize sponsors, Castlemartyr Resort, Bal- lymaloe Cookery School, The Bayview Hotel, The Farmgate Midleton, Trabolgan Holiday Vil-
lage, Bluebells Midleton, Pier 26 Ballycotton, The Blackbird Bar and Field Kitchen and Schoon- er Bar in Ballycotton, Hurley’s SuperValu, Ballymaloe Relish and the Kilkenny Group Shanagarry. Huge thanks to David Quirke, Jason Perry, Gina and the Cham- pions and Ronan Collins for their musical talents. We’d also like to thank all the staff at Garryvoe Hotel for their assistance in host- ing a splendid evening and to all those who turned up and made the night as special as it was.” The RNLI receives no funding from the Govern- ment and is run entirely by brave volunteers and the kind donations of the public. This is a crucial service for all those living on or visiting coastal areas and the work, dedica- tion and training which each crew member goes through to save lives at sea, cannot be understated. Please continue to support the work of the RNLI in your town.
The Lifeboat “Austin Lid- bury” will be at the Pier in Ballycotton next Sunday, August 5, between 12 noon and 3pm as well as a visit from the Coastguard helicopter. . Coffee and light snacks will be avail- able and the RNLI shop will be open on the Pier. This is an event to raise awareness and apprecia- tion for the RNLI and its volunteers.
