Killeagh Garden Tea Party in Aid of the Hope Foundation
by CLAIRE O’ DONOGHUE
held in
A Tea Party will be the garden of
Kennedy’s Bar Killeagh on Saturday, 4 August from 2-5pm. The event is
in aid of the Hope
Foundation, the charity which works with chil- dren living in poverty in the slums of Kolkata in India. Since 2003, the Hope
Foundation has
been working with stu- dents in Secondary and Third Level schools as part of a special Student Immersion Programme. This programme allows for students to fund- raise
through the year
and raise awareness of Hope’s work, then to visit Kolkata
and see
for themselves the im- pact of that work on the lives of children in the slums, and the fur- ther work that must be done. Hope believes this programme teaches the students the value of life, enhances social and cul- tural development and gives a life-enhancing experience that few get. The process of raising fund targets, reaching deadlines, using creative thinking, the opportunity to travel and seeing the benefits of humanitari- an activity first hand is a unique experience that impacts the lives of all those who volunteer to go to Kolkata.

and the Hope Founda- tion have been partnered for many years and stu- dents from the
school
have travelled to Kolkata during Easter Holidays to see first-hand the work being done by the charity and the positive impact it has on lives of children living in the worst possi- ble conditions. In 2019, 6 students, Éabha Walsh, David Collins, Kate Gal- vin, Tara Flavin, Eimear Hayes and Niall Shee- han, having gone through an application and inter- view process in May this year, will be taking on the challenge and travel- ling to Kolkata. Speaking with The East Cork Journal, Eabha Walsh said, “I’m really looking
eastcorkjournal
forward to visiting Kol- kata. It’s a great oppor- tunity to see how other children have
to live.
We’ve a lot to work to do to raise the funds needed to go and we would real- ly appreciate the support of the public.” Each of the students must now get to work over the next few months fundraising with the help of parents, teachers and friends, starting with the Garden Tea Party in Kennedy’s Bar Killeagh this Sat- urday, courtesy of Mrs Helen Kennedy.
Please come along
and support these al- truistic children and the Hope Foundation.
