Castlelyons Carnival in Aid of the Community Council Projects
by CLAIRE O DONOGHUE
The Annual Castlelyons
Carnival is ready to kick off from the 4 to 12 Au- gust, and is packed with activities and fun for all the
family. All proceeds
from the week long festiv- ities will be go directly to the Community Council Projects, the main one of which is the maintenance and upgrading of Fr. Fer- ris Park. Speaking with The East Cork Journal James Ronayne (Chair- man of the committee) said, “Funds for Fr. Ferris Park
are needed more than ever. Many sports and schools groups make use of the park on a daily basis but, as it is not an official ground affiliated with any sport- ing or educational body, we have had to rely on Cork County Council and fundraising in the commu- nity. Three separate grant applications were made this year to Cork County Council and those grants would have helped enor- mously in maintaining and upgrading facilities at Park for the benefit of the whole community. Unfortunate- ly they were turned down.
It is very disheartening but we’ll carry on and hope that
future applications
meet with success so that future generations can en- joy the park.” With so much on over the week, please
come
along to Fr. Ferris Park and the Carnival Marquee to support the community in their
efforts. Dog shows,
discos, games, fun and mu- sic – including the great Art Supple and his Band, are lined up and ready to keep young and old en- tertained week.
