August 2018 REPLAY REQUIRED IN COUNTY JUNIOR B FOOTBALL FINAL
Ballinacurra 0-11 Grange 1-08
Ballinacurra and
Grange will have to meet again after
playing out
a dour draw in Pairc Ui Rinn last Friday night in the Junior B County Foot- ball Final. Heavy rain before the
game and a constant driz- zle throughout made good football difficult, and as a result there was a lot of turnovers and mistakes as both sides were evenly matched. The first mistake came
in the opening minute as Grange were gifted a goal, when Tom O’Leary was back helping his defence, but his pass was intercept- ed with corner forward Alan McNamara having the easy task to finish to the net to give Grange a dream start. Neither side could gain
a foothold, with James Na- gle getting Ballinacurra on the board with a 5th
minute free. Grange were playing
a little better and points from Noel Barry from a free and Kurt Wheeler left them 1-3 to 0-1 in front af- ter the opening quarter. Ballinacurra had plen-
ty of possession but poor passing saw a lot of their moves breaking down with Tom O’Leary leaving the fray in the 20th
minute for
a Black Card incident. Noel Barry extended the Grange lead, but Kelvin Kruschel and James Nagle pointed to leave just a goal between the sides at half- time as Grange led by 1-3 to 0-3.
On the resumption the tempo picked up with Kurt
Wheeler extending
the lead to four points, be- fore Ballinacurra mounted a comeback with James Nagle pointing two free’s, Glen Harty firing over from play and Jake Hegar- ty also hitting the target and at the end of the third quarter the sides were lev-
el. While Kurt Wheeler restored the
advantage
Ballinacurra hit back with James Nagle bringing the sides level once more with a well taken point. Grange
stay in the lead through Ned Barry, but Nagle lev- elled
again before Ball-
inacurra hit the front for the first time when Glen Harty soloed through to kick “The Village” into the lead. Time was now run- ning out and Ballinacurra were playing much better, but
it was Grange that
went back upfield to win a free that Ned Barry con- verted in the 59th
minute.
With normal time up the game went into three min- utes of time added on with James Nagle hitting over his 7th
point of the evening
to edge Ballinacurra back in front. The win was within
their grasp, but Grange re- fused to give up and Colin Scott who had come back into the game, kicked over the equaliser with just 30 seconds left. Both sides had one final chance but failed to score and perhaps on
continued to
a night when neither side played to their full poten- tial, a draw was perhaps the right result. Grange: N Barry 0-4f, A McNamara 1-0, K Wheel- er 0-3 and C Scott 0-1 Ballinacurra: J Nagle
