Continued from last page Conor Lehane, who fired into

the roof of the net in the 52nd minute strengthened that view as Cork led by 1-23 to 1-18. Le- hane made it a six-point game, before the Limerick bench announced their arrival with Shane Dowling landing a mon- ster free to open his account. Another Dowling effort, this

time from play, was cancelled out by a first from Luke Meade for Cork with Daragh Fitzgib- bon also finding the range as Cork led by 1-26 to 1-20 in the 61st

minute. By now however

Cork were beginning to make a few errors and Limerick sensed that they were still in this con- test. Aaron Gillane started the revival with Kyle Hayes, Gillane twice more, Shane Dowling and Gillane again drawing the sides level as the game entered injury time. It took a magnifi- cent Nicky Quaid block to deny Seamus Harnedy a Cork goal as Limerick sensed that they had Cork on the rack and when Aaron Gillane slotted over a 73rd minute free it looked as if they might win in normal time. To their credit Cork found a level- ler as Conor Lehane was fouled with Patrick Horgan putting over the pressure shot to send the game to extra time with the sides finishing level at 1-27 each. By now however the mo- mentum appeared to be swing- ing Limerick’s way and when Seamus Harnedy, Darragh

Fitzgibbon and Daniel Kear- ney were all forced off injured in the opening period of extra time the Cork challenge began to fade. After the opening peri- od Limerick led by a point with Gillane 0-2 and Shane Dowling on target while two Patrick Hor- gan efforts just about kept the Rebels alive. Cork were by now fighting

a rear-guard action and when Shane Dowling was taken down, he dusted himself off to blast the ball high into the top corner to open a four-point lead for Limerick. By now Cork were on life support and when anoth- er sub Pat Ryan cut in along the end line to fire over Anthony Nash the game was done and dusted as Limerick now led by 3-30 to 1-29. Jack O’Connor who had replaced Kearney made it a six-point game, but with time now running out Cork needed goals and Limer- ick were not going to give any- thing soft as they fouled rather than concede. Patrick Horgan pointed and a long range free from Horgan also ended up in the Limerick net, but it came too late to make a difference as Limerick subs Barry Nash and David Reidy made sure of a first Limerick appearance since 2007 for the Treaty side who must now believe that they have every chance of winning. On the evidence of this dis-

play, few would disagree as over the 90 plus minutes, they fully

deserved their victory. Cork will look back on another op- portunity missed and perhaps the time gap since the Munster Final win was too much as a battle-hardened Limerick went the distance better with wins over Carlow and Kilkenny hav- ing them right for this re-match. Cork had some superb individu- al displays but overall the team- work of Limerick along with a stronger subs bench saw Limer- ick home. Cork: P Horgan 1-12, C Le-

Crucial Moments 1: Limerick Goals Cian Lynch’s goal kept Lim-

erick in the hunt at half time while Shane Dowling and Pat Ryan goals sealed the victory. 2:Nicky Quaid Block Nicky Quaid save to get a

block on Seamus Harnedy was crucial as a goal at this juncture would probably have won it for Cork.

3:Limerick Bench The Limerick bench contrib-

uted 2-6 when introduced in contrast to just one point from Jack O’ Connor for Cork.
