SEAMIE AND AND
WE THANK YOU So Cork Hurlers score 1-26 in 64 minutes and 2-31 in 90 and still they bow out of this year’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship – the most enthralling, exhilarating, exasperating
and effer-
vescent season that any- one can remember, even with two games yet to be played – with their heads held high and just a slight touch of “If only”….. on their part and ours! Hav- ing listened to the many pundits rave
about
quality of combat on dis- play in Russia over
the the
past few weeks, let’s repeat here what has been said many times over – there is nothing to compare to the game of hurling when played at its zenith of skill, bravery and magic, like it appears to have been every time Cork played this year. Conor Lehane’s goal, Seamie’s leadership, Nickie Quaid’s block, Pe- ter Duggan’s point,
Joe
Canning’s sidelines, there literally is no other sport to compare. Let’s protect it, nurture it and develop it so that the next generation of young boys and girls will have the same grá, ap- preciation and respect for this wonder sport. As for the ‘laochra na bliana seo’, all involved with the Cork hurling squad of 2018 (players,
subs, mentors,
support staff) deserve huge credit and thanks for the way they gave no less than 100% from start to finish this year. It may be scant consolation this morning,
but
back-to-
back Munster titles in the most competitive time of all for Munster hurling is no small achievement for these heroes. And they walk among us! The hon- our is ours!
LOTTO – SIX EIGHT! The weekly Lotto draw was held on Tuesday last, July 24th of the
with no winner €6600 jackpot.
Numbers drawn were 3, 6, 8 and 12. €30 goes to Maurette Fogarty, Mar- garet Long, Ann Marie O’Neill and a Lond- is voucher
for Shauna
Landers. Next week it goes to €6800. Price of a small car!
JUVENILE NEWS Cúl Camp a brilliant success – once again! There were 260 chil- every day at
dren our
Cúl Camp in Páirc Uí Chinnéide from July 16th to 23rd
. Think about it –
that’s a school with about 10 classes! And they had fun, all day, every day. Our number one advantage of 2018? – the Goldilocks weather! Not too hot, not too cold, not wet at
all
(until 2.05 p.m. on Fri- day evening as everyone scampered home) - just right. Our number two advantage? - well organ- ised. Huge credit to our hardworking chair and

secretary Seán Crowley and Olivia O’Rourke who had everything planned effectively in advance (dis- tributing kit on Saturday beforehand was a stroke of genius and is sure to become an annual occur- rence now) and were on hand at all times every day to ensure that any ‘matters arising’ were
dealt with
swiftly. Our number three advantage?
- our young
coaches. We had huge help from our own young players – male and female – who put their hand up to help out all week. They got to know the children they didn’t already know, kept a close eye on those that they

did, and, because many of them had not long depart- ed the ranks of Cúl Camp participants to go to the other
side, they ensured
that children coming each morning went home with a smile on thie face each day. Well done to you, young coaches, you are develop- ing into ‘laochra’ of your own. I referenced above the need to protect our beautiful
game, we

GOLF SOCIETY UPDATE – TRIP
there was not much down time for our Golf Society members, who took them- selves deep in to Black and Amber country last week for the trip to famed Mount Juliet, home of the Irish Open from 1993 to 1995. The winner of the event was a ‘laoch’ of another time, Joe Deane, who finished on 35 points. Others in the rizes includ- ed Padraig McGrath, Sean Treacy, Colin Fogarty (best gross), Tom Fitzgerald and Keane Kelly Budds. Next outing is to Castlemartyr on Thursday August 16th
,
with the time sheet now open.

– PLANNING AHEAD – CAMINO OR NOT Our monthly walks are
coming thick and fast, with our next walk, No. 31, due to take place in Ballyhou- ra, Co. Limerick on Sun- day August 12th
at 10.00
a.m. We’ll have to put up with the Limerick flags
everywhere, but we can just pretend they are Kil- leagh flags welcoming us! (It was a source of much pride to some Greek tour- ists in Waterford – alleged- ly there were such people – who were delighted to see such an array of blue and white in the Déise as Greece
were surprising
everyone by winning Euro 2004).
