Africa & the Indian Ocean Islands
Incredible experiences galore will be yours to indulge in on this tantalising fortnight of island-hopping. Along with sparkling white-sand beaches, you can unearth diverse cultures, lush landscapes and fascinating wildlife in some of the world’s most unspoilt destinations. There’s the chance to go in search of giant land tortoises in the Seychelles; see volcanic Réunion Island from the air; see breathtaking natural wonders in Mauritius; and much more.
Port Louis
After joining Boudicca in Port Louis, you’ll have an evening and then the following day to explore the depths. Sample the cultural diversity of the Mauritian way of life, from tea tasting in the beautiful Chinese Pagoda to exploring the local Stamp Museum and the colourful central market. Alternatively, a tour of the south of the island showcases breathtaking natural wonders, including the Trou-aux-Cerfs Volcano and the ‘Seven Coloured Earth’ sand dunes.
Réunion Island follows. You’ll find sweeping volcanic landscapes, dense forests and beautiful waterfalls just begging to be explored. The southern villages appear somewhat frozen in time: the charming Creole houses here remain much as they were fifty years ago. For breathtaking views into the ravine of the island’s legendary active volcano and across the surrounding countryside, opt for an all-encompassing helicopter trip.
The Seychelles is a stunning archipelago made up of 115 islands. With two days on Praslin Island and a full day on Mahé, there’s time to tick off the ‘must-do’ experiences. Explore the tropical forest of Vallée de
Mai, home to huge Coco de Mer nuts and rare black parrots; encounter Moyenne Island’s famous giant land tortoises; and take your pick from the many quintessential Seychelles beaches, most of which boast powder-white sand lapped by crystal-clear waters. Some of the best can be found on La Digue Island, while the beaches of Anse Lazio and Cote d’Or are equally appealing. After these calls is a scenic sailing past tropical Silhouette Island – an unforgettable spectacle.
Then it’s on to the Maldives, a slender chain of coral islands. First stop is the energetic capital, Malé; here the bustling streets and skyscrapers blanket the entire islet they sit on. Tours are available to the tropical resort of Kuda Bandos – feel the soft, white sand between your toes as you stroll along the beaches. The markets of Uligamu meanwhile are ideal for observing local Maldivian life and browsing for gifts.
Your exotic holiday will conclude with a relaxing day at sea. Enjoy all the facilities and activities on board Boudicca before reaching Colombo, from where you’ll journey back home.
