Caribbean, Amazon & Central America
Escape to the Caribbean on this relaxing voyage and you’ll fly out to join Braemar in paradise before sailing to a string of beautiful destinations. From rainforest plantations and historic forts to golden beaches and stunning snorkelling opportunities, you can indulge in a rich slice of the Caribbean, showcased through its finest islands. To add to that, the relaxing sailing back to the UK takes in the verdant Azores and laidback charms of La Coruña.
On arrival into Bridgetown, you can squeeze in some time to experience the lively and atmospheric centre of the city, with its Georgian houses and Parliament Square, before you set sail on your island-hopping exploration. On tranquil St Lucia, the quintessential town of Castries beats with life and culture, though it’s the Diamond Botanical Gardens, towering volcanic twin Pitons and lush rainforest of the surrounding island that regularly lure the visitors.
Braemar then glides onward to St Kitts, docking at the historic capital of Basseterre for a full day’s encounters. Should you opt to ride the St Kitts Scenic Railway it’d surely be the highlight of your time on the island. Brimstone Hill Fortress will fascinate too; it has witnessed more battles than any other single site in British and French naval history. Soon after your time on St Kitts, Antigua will appear on the horizon. The historic English Harbour and Nelson’s Dockyard here – which can be taken in from the 490-foot high lookout at Shirley Heights – are complemented by a choice of 365 beaches: one for each day of the year, if you ask the locals.
The tropical feel of St Maarten, ‘the Friendly Island’, is almost tangible in Philipsburg’s maze of alley ways and courtyards between the aptly named Back Street and Front Street. Offering a contrasting experience to this Dutch flavour is a tour to the town of Marigot, the French capital of the island. Alternatively, during your stay here, you can visit the nearby 17th
century battlements of Fort Amsterdam
and Fort Willem, or enjoy a luxury catamaran cruise before departing the Caribbean.
The voyage back to the UK begins by setting sail for the awe-inspiring Azores archipelago. Crater lakes – especially those of the extinct Sete Cidades Volcano – rich vegetation and hot springs form part of this captivating natural environment, with potential sightings of whales and dolphins in the surrounding waters a further treat.
A final call into the laidback Spanish city of La Coruña presents a feast for the eyes, with the city’s Old Quarter, stunning seafront promenade, Tower of Hercules and array of galleries and museums ideal for a memorable day’s exploration.
