Whitegate Rowing Club rows towards a busy 2018 While this is officially
our off-season at White- gate Rowing Club, the committee have been very busy putting plans in place for what is shaping up to be a very busy 2018 for our club.
Regatta Dates 2018 The Coastal Row-
ing Association recently announced the regatta Dates for the 2018 Sea-

Sports Capital Grant 2017 The club was delighted
to learn last week that we were successful in secur- ing a grant of €4000 as part of the 2017 Sports Capital Programme. This is great news for the club and will allow us to purchase more training equipment to further en- hance and develop the facilities at our clubhouse
in the Saw Mills, White- gate Village.

Cork Students Awarded Sports Scholarships By Institute Of Technology Carlow
• Local Sports Stars Awarded Scholarships by Institute of Technology Carlow
Seven Cork students were amongst the talented young sports stars awarded sports scholarships by Institute of Technology Carlow this week. The sports scholarship programme at Institute of Technology Carlow is now in its 18th
year and offers a support
package and/or bursaries to students of outstanding sporting ability. The scholarships provide financial and academic support, mentoring, injury rehabilitation, strength and conditioning support, high performance coaching and access to the Institute’s renowned sports facilities. The number of scholarships offered to students - 90 this year - has more than doubled since the programme was introduced in 1999, reflecting IT Carlow’s
renown as one of the leading third-level sporting institutions in the Ireland and a modern hub for sporting excellence with a growing academic portfolio of sports programmes. The programme’s elite scholarship strand recognises the Institute’s very best athletes

Medals For Midleton And Youghal At Irish X Country Championship

and there were medals aplenty for local clubs. Midleton’s Sinead
Kevany won silver in the Women’s Novice event over 4000m. She filled the runner-up spot be-

ly successful day for Youghal AC. The ex- citing Emma Landers won bronze in the U15 Girls 3500 metres, and Youghal AC were second overall. Landers won a
whopping eight medals in total at the champi- onships. The promis- ing Lucy O’Keeffe, of Youghal AC, was a good third in the U17 Girls 4000m, and she took
home bronze. Youghal’s Jake McCarthy won gold for Munster, and also picked up a county med- al, after finishing 14th overall in the Boys U17 5000m race.
