sport@eastcorkjournal.ie Deadline Tuesday at noon.
Every year within the di- vision we look back over the year and nominate a team of the season from the games that we have seen in the dif-
ferent grades. No doubt there were plenty of worthy candi- dates that are omitted as the team embraces all the grades from Junior to Senior and is
not a reflection on the ability of those left out, rather it is a personal selection of those that in my opinion excelled in their positions during the year.
GOALKEEPER : Declan Dalton (Fr O’Neill’s) Deccie had a superb season as custodian for Imokilly and his contribution to his club Fr O’Neill’s and division earn him the goalkeeping spot.
RIGHT CORNER BACK: Philip Keane (St Catherine’s) Only a minor but Philip Keane was outstanding in helping St Catherine’s to the East Cork title with a man of the match display in the final.
FULL BACK: JP O’Connor (Aghada) There were plenty of contenders for the no 3 shirt with Colm Barry and Colm Spillane having serious claims, but in leading Aghada to the County Intermediate title John Paul O’Connor showed the character required for the full back spot.
LEFT CORNER BACK: Barra O’Tuama (Castlemartyr) Barra could have been a contender for several positions, but his steady play and coolness under pres- sure for Imokilly earned him the no 4 jersey.
RIGHT HALF BACK : Kevin Murphy (Killeagh) helped his team to a great cham- pionship run and also played a big part in helping Killeagh to reach their first Red FM League Final.
CENTRE BACK: Niall O’Leary (Castlelyons) Catapulted into the position for Imokilly due to injury to Timmy Geaney, Niall O’Leary did not let the side down and turned in some fine displays on the way to county senior success.
MIDFIELD: Daniel Kearney (Sarsfields) For both club and county Daniel Kear- ney had a superb season and while championship honours eluded him, he did help his club to league success and his displays for club and county earn him a midfield spot in my team.
RIGHT HALF FORWARD: William Leahy (Aghada) Plenty of contenders for this position, but Leahy was a tower of strength for both club and division this year and is given the no 10 jersey.
LEFT HALF BACK: John Cronin (Lisgoold) JC had another fine season culminating in perhaps his best display in the Senior County Final.
MIDFIELD: Ger Millerick (Fr O’Neill’s) Another minor who covered himself in glory on the big stage. Ger was not out of place in Croke Park and when draft- ed into the Imokilly side, more than justified his selection.
CENTRE FORWARD: Seamie Harnedy (St Ita’s) The Imokilly team captain is set to lead Cork next season and his displays this year for county and division earn him the centre forward spot.
LEFT HALF FORWARD: Conor Lehane (Midleton) Plenty of contenders again for this position but in a year that Midleton failed to fire, Lehane helped Cork to a Munster title with some great displays for the county this year.
RIGHT CORNER FORWARD: Brian Mulcahy (St Catherine’s) The speedy corner forward had some huge displays for his club this season and did very well on each occasion that he came on for Imokilly.
FULL FORWARD: Eoghan Keniry (Killeagh) The Killeagh forward really came of age this season with a string of fine displays for his club at senior and u21 level, helping his side to the League Final.
LEFT CORNER FORWARD: John Looney (Aghada) The final position on the team goes to John Looney, who turned in some fantastic displays for his club this season and just edged out teammate Cian Fleming for the final spot.
SUBS: Colm Barry, Colm Spillane, Bill Cooper, Brian Lawton, Cian Fleming and John Cashman.
MANAGER OF THE YEAR: Fergal Condon who guided Imokilly to the senior hurling title.
