Glanmire Ladies Football Club Notes
2017 proved an in-
credible year for the 4 McAllen sisters from Upper Glanmire. have
with Glanmire
played football from
a young age and all tasted success early on with their school St Mi- chaels, Whites Cross. The Fab 4 represent the club at
all levels
from U14 and old- er. While each of the girls have won County medals in the past, all their stars aligned this year with the resultant medal haul being un- likely to be seen again in the one year. The youngest of
the fam-
ily, twins Aisling and Olivia were instrumen- tal in bringing a first All-Ireland
Feile to Glanmire when they All
were crowned Cham- pions in Cavan back in early summer, they added an U14 “A” and U16 “A” county along with numerous East Cork
titles during the
season. Niamh played and had a pivotal role also
in the U16s and
also stepped up to the plate with the Minors, Junior B and Junior A, this she managed while also completing Junior cert exams, all of these teams finished top of the pile in 2017 . Jane the eldest of the four played with the minor and adult teams, the minors only finishing their season in mid December defeating Aghada in the county Minor “A” final. For those who don’t pos-
sess a calculator, the
total number of coun- ty medals travelling to their Whites Cross home in January will be 13, with East Cork winners medals includ- ed another 11 will be proudly on display for many years to come. All of this was achieved through dedication and commitment
to
training and match- es and as anyone who knows these kids will testify there was always a smile on their faces when playing .We must also mention that these playing achievements have been shared with first cousins Liz and Ellen Twomey who have been by their side on the pitch every step of the way. Premier 2a Minor Hurling League ½ final Fr. O’Neills 0:12 v Fermoy 0:09 Fermoy was the venue
for this League semi final played on Sunday week last. The hosts were first off
the mark with the opening three points. We began to settle and got the next six points to lead at
the
break by 0.6 to 0.3.Hav- ing conceded goals in the championship encounter earlier in the season our backs stood firm this time with Colin Sloane in goals Ciaran Cuillinane at full- back and Ger. Millerick at centre back to the fore. In this tense second half the scores were
shared
and we went on to win by three points. This sets us up with a final date with Killeagh / Itas.
Premier 2a Minor Hurling League Final. Fr. O’Neills 4:08 v Killeagh / Itas 0:03 This League Final was
played in Killeagh on Sunday last where both did their best to cope with
their equally brilliant and committed team mates in making it pos- sible.

the poor weather condi- tions on the day. Killeagh / Itas were to register the first point this was quickly responded to with a free from William Abernethy. Jason Hankard got a goal with some fine work from Peter Hassett at

back and Jake Shine at corner forward. We be- gan to dominate
from
then on and further goals from Jason and Jake Shine gave us a comfortable 3.5 to 0.1 at half time. One wondered if we
Huge word of thanks to Brian O’Callaghan and Billy Harrington for all the work they put into the team. We had a few lads injured coming into the game that we were unable to play but the twenty that togged out on the day can be proud of themselves. Panel.

Killeagh / Itas got two points but Adrian Leahy and Conor Lee got the closing points to give us a fine victory. This was a great performance

rate, hooking and block- ing was the main reason for our win. Our backline for example did not con- cede any goals in the last two games. This team stared training on the 18th January last and up to last Sunday they had 85 ses- sions up to last Sunday, A
