AOH Cup - Corkbeg 0

Glenthorn Celtic ‘B’ 1 Corkbeg made their from this seasons

exit

AOH Cup on a bitterly cold Saturday afternoon in Whitegate, when they lost

1-0 to Glenthorn

Celtic ‘B’. It was a very poor performance from Corkbeg; as bad as they have played all season and although the

scoreline

may suggest a close game, the city side were far more convincing winners than the one goal margin at the

Corkbeg Reports But,

energy from the start and never allowed Corkbeg to settle. Celtics wing- ers Shane Duggan and Robbie

Coade the

regularly on either side, with Duggan the

raided out-

standing player through- out

game. Despite

almost constant pressure from Glenthorn, there was very little by way of clear chances, mostly due to the fact that Corkbegs defence of Alan Horgan, Colin Horgan, Ian Casey and Tom Smyth all put- ting in big shifts. Stephen O’Halloran did have two shots at goal that went well wide and Fred Wen- ham also missed the target

with a header from ten yards.

Glenthorns

pressure finally paid off on the half hour, when a free kick was awarded right on the edge of the Corkbeg area and Timmy Kelly drove a low shot to the bottom corner to give the away side a deserved lead.

Corkbeg improved

slightly in the second half, playing the game a bit more

in the Glenthorn

half and forcing a number of free kicks and corners around the

Glenthorn

area. Stephen O’Halloran came more into the game and Dylan O’Neill was busy on the right, while Jordan Ryan saw two long range efforts fail to trou-

ble Mark Prendergast in the Glenthorn goal. But for all Corkbegs efforts, Glenthorn still looked the more likely to grab the next goal, were first to every ball and generally looked sharper and hun- grier. Shane Duggan was a constant danger and on a couple of occasions was only denied by last ditch Corkbeg tackles. That said, neither goalkeeper was troubled too much in the entire second half. Towards the end of the game, as Corkbeg threw caution to the

wind,

there were a couple of epic

goalmouth bles in the scram- Glenthorn

area, but no clear chance would present itself and Glenthorn ran out fairly comfortable 1-0 winners. Team: P.O Reilly, A.

Corkbeg goalkeeper Eric Higgins and his wife Jen- nie on the birth of their son, Cole, at CUH on Fri- day evening. Anyone who has seen Eric in action for the Beg this season, will know that baby Cole is in safe hands. Best Wishes from all at The Beg.
