Santa Helps Create an Engaging Christmas For One Couple
by SEAMUS WHELEHAN
John Maher from Kilk-
enny enlisted Santa’s help to propose to his long- term girlfriend Lauren Doheny on a recent visit to East Cork. The man in red fills all
types of requests this time of year, but this is one of the first, for Fota Island Resort. The jolly old elf found himself playing a starring
role in the festive propos- al at Beyond Fota Island resort
last weekend, the
couple’s daughter, 4 year old Millie, was also in on the surprise. “We wanted Millie in-
volved in it, and the best option was that when she was visiting Santa, Santa produced the ring.” “We go visit Santa in
Fota every year, so Lauren wasn’t expecting it at all” John tells the East Cork Journal.
Holding a small black
box with a diamond halo ring inside, John dropped to one knee and proposed to Lauren, as Santa and his elves looked on and applauded. The couple now have
some wedding planning to do, with a date to be fixed for some time in 2019. John says whenever that
date is, Santa is top of the guest list. Keeping things tra- ditional John had asked
Laurens father, for his daughters hand in mar- riage. He said “I hadn’t
rushed into things” Lau- ren and I have been to- gether for 10 very happy years’. Congratulations to
both Lauren John and of course Millie, wishing you the best of luck and many more happy years, from all at the East Cork Journal.
