55 Highlights Of The Year Memorable Moments 2017 While the mainstream
sports gain most of the column inches, other Sports too made their mark in 2017 which was a memorable one for Cork City and Seanie Maguire in particular. The
frontman helped Cork City to a League
Title and while Maguire was not around for their cup success, the leading goal scorer played a big part in Cork City’s first league and cup dou- ble with manager John Caulfield deserving great praise for this his- toric achievement.
Paudie Murray was
another manager that hit the headlines for the right reason as the Cork Camogie
Ladies cap-
tured the All –Ireland Camogie title for a third time in four years, which is a remarkable achieve- ment by any standard,
with Cork coming from behind to capture the title.
In ladies football Cork
enjoyed less success that in previous years but for the Aghada Junior side it turned out to be a terrif- ic year as they were the only Cork side to claim
All Ireland success. In basketball Gl- had another
anmire
fine season as they too achieved great success and they will be bidding for more silverware in the new season. Horse
Racing saw Aidan O’Brien break all
records with 26 Group 1 wins for the Ballydoyle genius, while Irish eyes were also smiling after another great year at the Cheltenham Festival. In Snooker Ross Bul- man and Aaron Hill are two young Cork-men that are worth keeping an eye on as these cue men have certainly had a great 2017 season. There are many oth- er sports played locally
that we do not get to see on a regular basis, but thanks to the efficient club PRO’s these mi- nority sports are able to be given coverage in the paper, and long may it continue.
Finally may I wish all
our readers a Happy Christmas and Peace- ful New Year as 2017 is now almost confined to the realms of history.
