Think Local Shop Local This Christmas

by SEAMUS WHELEHAN

St. Mary’s High School Class of ’82 Reunion

Midleton Park Hotel 8pm

Friday 29th December For chat and drinks

AS we get closer to Christmas and start wrapping up our shop- ping, Midleton and Area Chamber of Commerce are asking you to spend Christmas at home. There are a multitude of

opportunities to buy your gifts locally. For making a real effort

to shop locally, participat- ing stores will reward those who shop local with a free entry in a draw for every

€20 spend, for a €500 and €250 shopping voucher and a series of €50 vouchers to spend in the January sales. What you can find in

Cork City you can probably find here locally. When peo- ple shop locally their euro is reinvested into the local economy, keeping people in the community and serving the families that we have here. Local independent op- erators in turn reinvest that euro not only in maintain- ing jobs and wages but also invest in the community’s wellbeing.

The retail business is of

vital importance to the Irish economy employing over 275,000 people, making it about 14% of the total Irish work force. Without your support, the

jobs at this time, and year round, are not secure. Andrea Gunn, Midleton

and Area Chamber of com- merce business development manager, says “Late shop- pers can get all they want locally, secure in the knowl- edge that they have gifted prosperity in their local business.”

Youghal Students Sing for Simon and Raise €446

by DENISE FITZGERALD It was a bitterly cold

day in Youghal as the young primary students of Bunscoil Mhuire gave two wonderful

outdoor

performances of Christ- mas Cheer at Youghal Post Office and Tesco, to help raise funds for the Simon Community.

ers and under the baton of Geraldine

Accompanied by teach- Mulcahy

the young students sang their hearts out for the very worthy cause. Their enthusiastic and exuber- ant singing drew shoppers from supermarkets, and people from cars, to listen to their young voices raised

in song to celebrate Christ- mas, as they sang to raise funds for those in dire need at this special time. Locals and visitors once more re- sponded to the very good cause with generous dona- tions.

Well done to Geraldine,

musicians Treasa Ed- monds, Claire Hannon, Alan White and especial- ly to the

young singers

who stood in the cold in Youghal and sang for Si- mon.

Phil’s Road Run Due to circumstances beyond our control, the venue

for registration & refreshments after the race has had to be moved. They will now take place in the hall at the Church of the Holy Family. This is situated next to the GAA Club so we hope it won’t inconvenience people too much. There will be a Marshal at the GAA Club direct- ing people who aren’t aware of this change.
