TRENCHING SPECIALISTS

OFFSHORE POWER MARKET OPPORTUNITIES

CWind, part of the Global Marine Group (GMG), delivers the company’s power cable and asset management services, topside and subsea

With experience at over 40 offshore windfarms, the company is known as a reliable power cable installation and maintenance provider. GMG acquired Fugro’s trenching and cable lay business, a deliberate step that complements CWind’s offering and significantly enhances GMG’s service portfolio to the power market. The company has a comprehensive range of integrated services, with the immediate capacity to complete additional packages of work in direct response to market demands.

Since the founding of Fugro’s trenching and cable lay business in 2012, Fugro has established a strong presence in the renewables market, working with offshore windfarms including Lincs Wind Farm, Humber Gateway, Gwynt y Môr and Rampion.

ACQUISITION

The acquisition involves the transfer to GMG of 23 Fugro employees located in Aberdeen, one vessel, M/V Symphony, two high performance

Q1400 trenchers and two work class remotely operated vehicles (ROV). The Group now has the capability to undertake projects which require precise installation in challenging seabed environments, including performing jet trenching on subsea pipelines, cables and umbilicals in soils of up to 100KPA. Embracing the latest technologies in jet trenching and ROV design, the Q1400 can perform mechanical chain cutting of soils of up to 250KPA.

The system consists of a ‘common trenching module’ with separate tracked ‘jetting and mechanical cutting skids’, which can be switched between whilst at sea. The system also includes a customised launch and recovery system (LARS) rated to Lloyds, and can work up to sea state 6.

Multi-purpose support vessel Built in 2011, the Symphony is a multi- purpose IMR and ROV support vessel, with an extensive 1,400m² deck space, and will join GMG’s existing cable

installation and maintenance fleet. Designed to address the demands of deep water remote intervention, renewables, construction and survey markets, the Symphony offers enhanced utility and productivity.

COMMITMENT GMG are committed to achieving their vision of ‘engineering a clean and connected future’ and will continue to build, align and adapt their business in order to meet the evolving needs of their customers, by providing engineering support, project management and capable assets, delivered by a proven team with an extensive track record.

The acquisition was announced on the 12th October 2017, and closed on the 30th November 2017.
